Periodical Workout Thread ...

RickYou totally need to do a blog ! Give us your stats !

Thats a very good idea. It will keep me present and aware that 'others' are actually paying attention.

I was looking for some good blog sites but came across fitday. Anyone ever hear of it? It looks pretty cool. There is a totally free online version (you can buy a PC version) and you track EVERYTHING. Exercises, meals, nutrition, goals, etc. It has a really comprehensive food search function. You find what you ate, click on it, you can see ALL of the nutritional values. You can even customize it....say you eat a bowl of oatmeal...and want to throw in some raisins....boom!....

There is a chart to add your current weight, your goal weight, and your goal date. There is even a spot to enter into a journal...plus you can make it public. So, I'm thinking about using this instead of a blog...

Check it out. http://www.fitday.com/

Wordpress and Blogger are very good.

My brother is madly out of shape in San Diego; my mission in life is to document his results when he joins my Corp.

I'm still tinkering with Fitday. I've been up since 6am looking into this...

So far, the thing I like about fitday is that its food search function is pretty vast. Almost too vast to the point it takes some getting used to. It took me 1/2 hour to find just plain ol un flavored, canister style, 1 minute Quaker Quick Oats. But, once you get the hang of it, which I am starting to, it gets easier. You have toast..find it, add it to your day, then find butter, change the portion to 2 pats, add it to your day and so on.

Then, all of the food info gets added to your calendar and your chart automatically. I haven't sent myself a link yet to test it but I'm guessing that once I make it public people can pretty much see what I've written, what I've eaten, how my exercise routine is going etc. Jury is still out (might be a drag to enter this daily) but so far I'm thinking its pretty cool.

Heh heh... just finished a huge bowl of oatmeal with a pack of Splenda and fresh strawberries. Oatmeal is the good old fallback when you don't have time for something more complicated.

I haven't really checked into Fitday, but if you feel good about it, you should probably use it.

i dig oatmeal. its my staple when i am on a "mission."

like i said, jury is still out on Fitday. for personal use its a great way to really log everything you are doing. but, for public use, not really sure its as interesting as a traditional blog for people to keep track of. here is an example. its only 1 page. i made up the info and the foods i ate (haven't even gotten up to pee yet) just to get the pie charts going...PS I just wanted to point out that even though I just made up what I had for breakfast...

PS I just wanted to point out that even though I just made up what I had for breakfast...663 calories for a cup of oatmeal, 2 pieces of toast and a glass of OJ! WTF? That right there is shocking. Now I DEFINITELY see the benefits from tracking and monitoring my intake. sheesh.

This is the only thing that bothers me about Fitday (so far).

Who are you Robert Shapiro? I didn't even see that! sheesh.

Not sure if its a big deal or not...there is no personal info exchange...to sign up you make up a name and password. But...that does seem a bit iffy...

One down....a million to go!

1/2 hour on the elliptical, some ab crunches, light chest and tris...and my first of 6 perfectly balanced meals.

I have just started doing some free weights again this weekend. My entire body hurts...but it's a good kind of pain. I DO want to look like that dog on the picture running on the beach. I have to say I find it really hard to keep motivated now. About 8 years ago I was really into it and I could bench press like 110kg. Now I find the act of working out so repetitive and robotic. It working out sucks to be honest, but this is where the clichés show up: no pain no game.

Oh, I forgot to mention. I've spoken to a cousin of mine who was really gaining weight from his sedentary office life and he told me he lost like 20 pounds playing squash. This actually sounds like a cool fun way to loose some calories.

That sounds great.

In addition to the gym and eating right, one thing I am vowing to do is just try to sneak in as much activity as possible outside of the gym. Too often before I'd do me 1.5hour work out and consider that MORE than enough. And, it probably is good enough. But, instead of the tube or the computer, i'd be better off going across the street and playing with my dog in the park or striking up a game of Frisbee Golf on the course thats set up at the same park.

And, I recognize that some of what I am saying might be coming from that high you get when you have just committed yourself to a new exercise regimen. But, if I don't put it out there and make a claim it would be easier for me to quit. So, I am trying to be firm and accountable this time.

Last night, my gf and I (shes on board with this and following the BTF plan) were cooking most of our meals for the week. We were cooking for hours...Chicken breasts, like 50 hard boiled eggs, brown rice, yams, etc. It felt like we had our own catering business...pots going, oven buzzer going off, veggies getting rinsed and chopped etc. I'm sure it will become 2nd nature in a few weeks but sheesh.

Argh, that's the other part...dieting. I hate it. I love eating so much. I really love cooking. I think it's an art when it's well done. Some people eat to live. I live to eat. Luckily I was blessed with a moderately fast metabolism that doesn't allow me to gain too much weight. Otherwise I think I'd have a serious problem with obesity. But that doesn't keep me from having that small beer gut when I stop working out for too long.

Yeah, I can eat healthy as long as I'm working out. If I am not working out I feel like a shlub...then I don't really bother watching what I eat. But, I generally eat pretty well (not as strict as the plan I am currently following) and love to cook but food isn't my problem. My vice is beer. I love the stuff. My weight gain and belly is all barley and hops.
