Perfect Image

Okay, here's the thing. I'm on the verge of giving up on Premiere to compress my videos to under 100MB. Here's how I want to do it now:

CAPTURE THE RAW FOOTAGE

EDIT IN PREMIERE

EXPORT TO TAPE with the same gorgeous quality

CAPTURE THE EDITED VERSION BACK ONTO MY HARDDRIVE via Premiere (In the same gorgeous) quality

Only problem is, now it's a multiple GB file. SOOOO, I need a third party video compressor...what's the BEST one?

So, any idea why the video came out looking terrible like that? I'm still working on it. everyday. NOTHING works....

Every time you output your digital video footage from premiere to your camera, you're losing some quality. Go straight from premiere to your goal. Going back and forth from camera to computer to camera is no good.

I would suggest:
Import once from camera to computer (premiere)
Edit and CC with premiere
Compress using premiere
Upload to online website (or whatever)

Keep the flow simple converting video is like carrying water, every trip you make you're bound to lose a little bit.

Yo, I know this thread is alot of pages and you may not've read it all, but THAT'S the issue of the ENTIRE thread.....I don't know how to export my films from premiere is a quality that doesn't look like the worst **** ever produced...check my link to my latest export

Dude, youtube is screwing it up...

it's not YouTube at ALL...that's how it ACTUALLY looks, with the suggestions HE gave me. YouTube doesn't mess things up anymore. HEY, YOU MADE A MOVIE!!! Why don't you tell me what ur export settings were and this whole problem will be fixed

I am afraid I don't use Premiere... I use Avid, and my import/export settings all use Quicktime Reference files for the most part..

Export settings should be the same on all editing systems.....I mean, WMV and Quicktime should differ..but nm then....looks like no one knows....or no one's willing to tell....Time to get back to trying...

Dude, if no one is willing to help you then this thread would not have gone on for 11 pages. Seriously, I feel like you're just taking your frustration out on everybody here and it's not making them want to help you. Andy for instance have been very patient in guiding you through solving the problem, but as soon as his suggestion doesn't work out you start ranting and raving as if it was his fault. My advice is to calm down, ask nicely and maybe more people will be willing to help you.

okay whitewood, there's a lot I think you need to just read about.
Interlaced/progressive is a big item to understand.
From your recent footage I have to suggest one thing...
TV is not real life, what looks like real life on TV was shot in very bright conditions. Our human eye can adjust to dark rooms, the camera can't. When you record in dim rooms, your camera won't produce quality pictures. So here's the deal. You've bought a multiple thousand dollar camera (one that I can't afford so I'm jealous) - so I'm gonna assume you can afford (or sacrifice lunch to buy) the following books:
Learn Lighting by Reading
Learn Audio by Reading
Learn Video by Reading

I apologize if this comes off harsh but what's another 150 bucks if you're unhappy with your 3000 investment?

Plus, rather than asking a thousand questions, one at a time, you'll have a personal library of basic knowledge.

Buy these books, learn how to fish, there are concepts in these that regardless of individual situations, your understanding them will allow your artform to grow in quality.

-good luck

Seeing as how it looks like you've burned most bridges here, may I again suggest a drink of water? Order these books, you may get some settings that work for this clip, but next time you'll need different settings, if one setting worked for everything, they wouldn't be settings, they'd be 'set'. Please buy these books.

ok, ok, ok, so I've been exporting my ASS off. I LOADED my desktop with the SAME FILE OVER and OVER and OVER again, each with a different setting. I found a good setting...I mean, it still has flaws. But here are the things I've discovered about Andy's advice:

D1/DV NTSC (0.9) cuts your footage off on the bottom and top like it's letter box, but it's not letterbox..it's just...weird.

SAME AS PROJECT for the Pixel Aspect Ratio squares the entire video in. Like..puts a black square around it...

ALLOW INTERLACED PROCESSING puts lines ALL THROUGH every frame of the video...looks TERRIBLE.

What I've found that DOES work so far:

All of CONSTANT, Variable CONSTRAINED & UNCONSTRAINED look the same to me...
Of course, the higher the AVB, the better the video. (I've been exporting @ 7,000 for a minute long feature down to 480 for an 18 minute long one...they actually look great)

My FRAME RATE is ALWAYS the 'same as source'. But my 24FPSA footage gets little lines while my 30FPS doesn't...I'm still working on that.

My DECODER COMPLEXITY is always 'complex'

------------------------------------------------------

Now it's time to show you the best I could get this video. I shot some car footage YESTERDAY and JUST finished editing it last night, And I haven't slept with the katrillion export test I ran, but here are the settings I used for this:

BITRATE MODE: constant
FRAME RATE: Same As Source
PIXEL ASPECT RATIO: Square Pixels
AVB: 8,000
IMAGE QUALITY: 100
DECODER COMPLEXITY: Complex

Here's the YouTube link...which I only suggest you watch if the first link takes too long to load:

P.S....anybody know where I can get some free contract templetes, Directors agreements to start having clients sign...any downloadable contract sites you may know of?

WhiteWood -- AWESOME RESULTS!!! Congratulations!
I'm really glad you found a way to make it work.
Thanks for finding and sharing those settings. I'm sure they will help a lot of us.

at your service,

NO, thank YOU for introducing me to the new settings. Before I would only mess with about 4 of them...Now that I know what a little more them mean, I can adjust better things...you've been a GREAT help. I still have a long ways to go, but for a internet thread, this has been great.

Just curious, which veriosn did you see, the WMV or the YouTube?

Whitewood....
I suggest that now that you're satisfied, post your perfect settings from A to Z
in clear simple language so everyone can benefit!
cheers
