Pentax K-7 DSLR video specs

While you can control the lens aperture on some competing SLRs by faking-out the exposure system, the Pentax K7 is the first video-capable SLR that we're aware of that lets you set the lens aperture explicitly. You can't adjust it during recording, but whatever value you set before you begin your clip is the one the camera will use. This is a great feature, one that's been sorely lacking in other video-capable SLRs. We really liked the control this gave us over the depth of field of our recorded videos, and liked knowing that the aperture was exactly what we'd set it to, not some value we hoped we'd tricked the camera into using.

Here's where the Pentax K-7's body-based IS comes into play, though: With most video-capable DSLRs, even normal hand tremor can produce an unsettling unsteadiness in the video image. Thanks to the Pentax K-7's IS system, your videos will be rock-steady, even in the face of poor camera-holding technique.

"and the 30 fps at HD resolution is better than many competing models, several of which top out at 24 fps"

So it does have manual aperture control but nothing I've read yet says that it also includes manual control over shutter and ISO and/or the ability to lock these settings like the 5D does once you get what you want. Anybody able to expand on what kind of manual control the K7 does have? Aperture is nice but what about the rest of the manual controls.

I just received my K-7 today and tested my 15mm F2.8 Sigma lens with it and posted a short clip on Vimeo. So far I am in love with this camera.

a vari-nd filter and manual aperture lenses work for pseudo manual control. 30p is the problem.

What do you mean by "pseudo manual control"? You can set aperture manual and iso + shutter work automatically. Or is there a workaround to set a fix shutter/iso? There are some other open questions. What about 50hz-flickering (pal) if you can´t adjust the shutter to 1/50 or 1/100?

Furthermore i´ve read something about "fast overheating". So how long can you shoot till the camera shuts down? What about adapters for nikon glasses? I´ve found one from Hongkong: http://cgi.ebay.de/Nikon-Lens-to-Pe...s?hash=item5633310c1d&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

I mean as much control as you have with a D90 with a vari-nd filter and manual aperture lenses.

It overheats too?

Yep, a whole lotta. Meanwhile i got some infos + tips from a german user (the guy who shot the posted vimeo clip). There seems to be a workaround for shutter + iso: http://falklumo.blogspot.com/2009/06/k-7-as-movie-camera-part-ii-controlling.html. But, sorry, that looks pretty similar to that one with the d90 (i´m fed up with). Also iso seems to rise quite quickly in lowlight situations with the result of a lot noise.

So, the "only bright spot" appears to be the picture quality with the high bitrate. But the rest...?

BTW: what means bugga?
