Pentax k-5 Any specifications?

As far as I know: there is no manual exposure in video mode -- you can set the aperture manually, but shutter and ISO is correspondingly set by the camera. However, you could get back some control by using exposure lock.

can u post some raw videos?

and what it has from hdmi output?

I don't have a Vimeo account, so I could just upload one short shot. This is (obviously) completely unedited, straight out of the camera. 1080p 25 M-JPEG at full quality setting. I have seen data bitrates as high as 9.3MB/s so far.

I haven't hit any overheating yet, but I'm testing with short clips.

The basic contols for movies are Aperture Priority, with AE-Lock. Combined with the live histogram and zebra, the easiest way to control things is to switch to Live View, where you can see ISO/aperture/shutter. I can quickly see, for a given ISO, what aperture I need to hold the shutter around 1/60. (Pentax's Hyper-Program makes this easy as I can leave it in Program auto and roll through the apertures manually, and add or remove ND filters.) I switch to Movie mode, set the aperture to the same as I had in Program Live View. Hit AE-L, and I know I will have the same shutter and ISO that I saw in Live View. You could do the same mental gymnastics by using a handheld external lightmeter to guide your selection of aperture.

Hopefully I'll have a couple of clips posted to youtube so that you can see a something a bit longer!

Let me get this straight... it's mjpeg at 25fps, at about 60 mbit, and there's a way to see the shutter and iso that it picks for you?

plz connect k-5 to any hdmi monitor , i try to know what type of signal it has.
Can u post more static scenes on youtube such as grass , foresrt , street?

LOL, yes that's the general idea!

In Live View (which is for still photography) the camera shows all three, ISO/Shutter/Aperture.

When you switch to Movie mode, the camera only shows Aperture. But you can predict what the camera is selecting based on the Live View feedback. This is not a 100% guarantee that you will get the same shutter and ISO, but given the same scene and same exposure-value levels, it will be pretty darn close. In movie mode, you know the camera will automatically try to maintain 1/60 and ISO 100 as long as it can. If it's too dark for the aperture you've set, it will start amping up the ISO. If it's too light for the aperture you've set, it will force a faster shutter speed. But with AE-Lock, you can hold the settings at whatever you saw in Live View. You can also tweak the overall exposure value by using the Expsosure Compensation +/- controls. I'm thinking that by using a grey card you could have VERY repeatable, controllable results.

I'm going to plug it into my HDMI screen tonight. Not sure what the HDMI signal is at the moment.

I'm going to put a few more scenes on youtube and will post the link here.

thanks for sharing filmamigo. i'm not sure whether to buy a gh1 or a k-5. so your experiences are very very useful. especially i need good low light performance and high dynamic range with a not so bad video compression in a nice built body. can you choose the noise reduction levels even in movie mode? as i understand your trick: you go with the dial in the manual photo mode, take the live view, set the picture right (shutter, iso, aperature) and go to the film mode and lock the aperature and so you have this settings you had set before? are the settings still there, if you switch the cam off and on again or have you start the procedure again? it would be so incredible great, if pentax gives manual shutter control in a firmware update. hope pentax gets it soon. then my decision is obvious ;)

OK, here's a few more sample shots that I stuck up on YouTube. The original clips are cleaner (obviously) than the YouTube compression shows.

It's definitely not "manual" video controls. I'm just using Live View as a light meter and seeing what the camera will favour for exposure given a certain shot. The exposure value could only be comparable when you switch to Movie if you ensure the same thing is in the frame (i.e. no more or less sky in the shot.) It's not locked until you press AE-L. There is another "manual" video workaround for the K-7 posted on PentaxForums, but I haven't tried it yet... it involves setting things up in Aperture Priority mode first... check it out at PF, it's a sticky at the top of the Video forum.

I didn't have a MiniHDMI cable, so I haven't tested the output yet.

However, I did read the manual. For stills, you can select the HDMI output: 1080i, 720p or 480p. In movie mode, it only supports 480p live output from the HDMI.

I had a grey card/flashlight/bunch of cellophane filters for my d90. my only problem with the d90 was that i didn't know what was happening. All I wanted was a readout. This sounds like something I could go for. It's a thousand bucks huh. Mjpeg. royalty free high bitrate intraframe codec. in PAL. I'm so down with this thing.

is it possible to set the noise reduction level and could you change picture profiles (with sharpness, contrast, saturation...) in movie mode?
