Pearstone BP970 large capacity not working with C300

Just me? Been googling, but coming up empty.

My Pearstone PE-BP970 batteries (purchased for XF300) are starting up the camera, then after about 8 seconds it shuts down. Is the cam looking for the proprietary chip then shutting itself down when it doesn't find it?

I have a bunch of 'em which is why when I purchased a C300 today, I didn't bother to by any of the OEM batts.

Bummer is, I leave for Grand Canary Island on Monday, and the pro camera shops in Paris are close for weekends! Argh.

Found some high caps that work (chip installed) from maker hähnel @ 7.2V 7800mAh, so should last slightly longer than the Canons.

Will give update after weeklong shoot starting Monday.

The Pearstone stuff quality is just awful and I think your 16K C300 deserves better. Just get the OEM batteries, there is really no good reason to cut the corner on that end.

Telecam,

Meh. I used to be very strict about OEM accessories, then after years on the road, desperate purchases to replace/repair OEM gear with after market goods, I came to realize that it was folly.

Now days, an after market batt is one of the least insulting things my cameras will be subjected too... Not that I don't look after my kit, it's just that shooting docs in a sporting environment (mostly Pro Tour Cycling in my case) stuff gets baptized in fire again and again.

That said, first time the new baby gets a bruise, I will cry a little bit.

FWIW, the four Pearstone high-caps I purchased with my XF300 have worked without a hitch, save for one which charges but does not show an indicator flash on the charger. I have had OEM Canon batteries fail after just a few months. So I mark this up to the amazing alchemy that is a modern battery.

Your kilometrage may vary,

Christopher

i have few questions related to batteries as well if u dont mind..

1. how long BP-955 will last with C300?

2. as far as i understand the bp955 is the biggest battery that will fit C300 so that you could close the battery dour, is it so?

3. as i understand the Battery dour is removable, is it so? if so i could use big batteries with out the dour....

4. will the canon BP-970G work with c300? its a little cheaper then bp-955, and 2000mAh larger ?

5. What about Swit batteries? has any one tried them? does it works? it has 1 nice feature - power cord - could charge external recorder same time!

Anatusa,

Cannot yet give you run times for batteries as I just acquired my C300 2 days ago.

Yet, your post reminds me of the fact that B&H sells after market batts for use with these cameras, indeed I have purchased many myself dating back to the original Canon XL1. Considering the relationship that what I imagine is the largest retailer in the world of Canon products, I doubt that they would dare sell anything that they considered to be harmful or detrimental to your gear. Perhaps I'm naive.

I have removed the battery door completely. There is a button on the bottom of the battery compartment (more like a small tab), push is down and pull the door out.

Best,
CK

thanks for the info guys! but what about canon BP-970G - does it work at all with c300? its seems like it should, but it would be great to be sure about it...

Oddly enough the Canon web page for C300 only specifies the BP-955 & BP-975. I know for a fact that the little BP-945 that came with my XF105 doesn't work in my C300. Interestingly the specifications for the XF105 do list the BP-970G among a load of other batteries.

BTW Do any of these 3rd-party batteries have a chip that reports how much juice is left? Even just being able to push a little button & have LEDs light up on the battery itself like the proper Canon batteries would be OK.

here is the info i got from BH

Chris H: CABP970G = Compatible with the cameras intelligent system, but because of this batteries size, you will not be able to close the battery compartment cover.

ANATOLIJS: but it will power the cam right? the price for it is great.... i know i ll have to remove the dour..

Chris H: CABP975 is the proper model to purchase for the C300 or the CABP955

Chris H: 970G will power the camera but ---> Compatible with the cameras intelligent system, but because of this batteries size, you will not be able to close the battery compartment cover.

ANATOLIJS: ok thks
