PCMCIA 3G Card Adapter for USB

Would a PCMCIA adapter to usb work with the P2 Cards? I bought a new laptop but the P2 Card won't fit. Does the PCMCIA adapter have to also be type II? How many pins does the P2 Card have?

If a PCMCIA adapter does work how would you have to setup the P2 drivers? USB or Card?

Thank you in advance.

It won't. The P2 card is no average PCMCIA card. Standard converters will not work. You need either the Panasonic devices (there is a 5 card reader...but it is $2000) or, if your laptop has an Express34 slot, the Duel Systems adapter. This is what owners of the macBook pros use.

Do you think they have something like that at Bestbuy?

I haven't. I have a Powerbook with PCMCIA slot so I never had the need. Interesting, they cite P2 as an option. Might be worth a try.

I had read some reports here a while back that the Addonics adapter works with P2, but I also seem to remember some compatibility issues with some notebooks. Don't remember the details, though, so you might want to do some searching before you buy.

Just a suggestion. But if your video is important, use what others have had success with. Even if it's twice the price. :)
We've used the Dual Adapter for a couple years now for our Alienware that has no PCMCIA slot.

The Addonics doesn't work with all PC laptops with EC/34 slots - unfortunately.

We tried it with a Lenovo netbook, and it hung the system every time.

Too bad, it would have been a create little transfer station. DA didn't work either.

Ah. well, that's disappointing. I guess I do remember it not working with some HP laptops but I didn't know there were others.

So have u found any other solutions? kinda disappointed as I m thinking of using Lenovo netbook as a transfer station too.

Anyway i found this interesting idea on the net.
