PCI-to-PC Card Pro for P2 cards?

Hi Michael,
You don't say what computer configuration you have, so we just assume you have a windows box ? or a G4 mac with PCI interface?.
an Amtron card works with the above---

But if you have a lap top or windows PCIe or G5 series with PCIe or an Intel Macpro , well, Thats a different matter, I have the amtron reader working in my Intel Macpro, but since Apple's update to 10.5.6 came out, it's all changed yet again..

If your cashed up get the Panasonic 5 card reader solution.

I just have a few more questions,

What would be a good converter to buy that can convert the native P2 card files into AVI or some other common video format?

I searched the internet and came up with a lot of answers, please let me know! :dankk2:

1) You could not use the card at that link with a P2 card without a DuelAdapter or Addonics adapter, because it's an ExpressCard slot, not a PCMCIA slot. P2 cards are PCMCIA form factor. You need a Type II 32-Bit CardBus PCMCIA slot.

2) That's not what you want to do. You want to use them in their native form. All of the major NLEs will do this one way or the other. But there is software able to do it, like Raylight.

Is Sony Vegas a major NLE? Because I have Sony Vegas and I can't use the native card format MXF with Sony Vegas.

I was reading this thread that Barry Green made:

Does this "plug-in for Vegas" convert the files or just make it so Sony Vegas can understand them?

That would be Raylight for Windows at DVFILM.COM.

Go there I believe there is a demo. But it permits the import of native mxf files into Vegas I believe.

Or just send an email to the company and Marcus will respond
 
Raylight makes it so that Vegas can see the cards natively. It doesn't do a conversion.

As far as Vegas being a major NLE... well, depends. It's a great NLE, and it is powerful, but it's not quite like the big "A" group (Apple, Adobe, and Avid). It has a rabid and loyal following, but you'll find FCP, Avid, and CS4 in major post facilities who may never have even heard of Vegas (or EDIUS, for that matter).
 
Still, I don't understand why this can't be solved for OSX. We need to find someone with programming experience that can get this sucker to work.

Perhaps the drivers from the old Mac Laptops with PCI slots can be modded to work?

The issue that I run into are the hard-drives I'm provided on set: they're most, if not all, formatted for OS X useage. =( It creates a massive headache.

Drivers from old mac's won't work. New Macpro's are intel based, so it's a whole new ball game. Many out here have been trying this for some time I'm still testing various kext's for the latest Mac update 10.5.6, . It's like trying to find the proverbial "Needle in the haystack".
So called "Driver experts" are even more rare. Even Apple development (ADC) are difficult to talk too.
