PCD20 cannot read cards?

Just got a PCD20 5 card reader and I've been trying to test it with 3 different E series P2 cards. I just downloaded the latest driver for the reader to my Macbook Pro, which is running Snow Leopard. When connected via firewire 800 cable, I've tried each of the cards and always get the same error message: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"

I thought perhaps it was a firmware issue with the E series cards, so I went to the Panasonic website and tried to find the proper download but it seems the only one available is for PC only. Can anyone shed light on this? If it is the firmware, where do I find a download for Mac? And if not the firmware, then what?

By the way, the clips play fine when connected through my HPX 170.

It's almost certainly a case of the firmware needing to be updated on the PCD20. I don't know whether you can do it on a Mac or not, hopefully some Mac users will weigh in on that. If possible you might take it to someone who has a Windows system and get the firmware updated.

Thanks for the response Barry. That's what I suspected. So if it is that, I could connect the PCD20 to a Windows system to update the firmware and then it would work with my Mac? I know it's possible to run Windows and Mac OS on the same machine with Snow Leopard, but it just seems like a lot of hoops to jump through just to update firmware. It would be nice if Panasonic would support both Mac and PC since they do for most everything else.

Yes, once the firmware is updated, it's good to go on any system. I know there's more parity with Mac support than there used to be, but I don't know offhand if the PCD20 has the ability to have its firmware updated from the Mac or not. If you're not seeing the download, then it's probably a case of "not".

Just wanted to add that it was in fact the firmware that needed to be updated. I brought it into work and hooked it up to a PC, downloaded the latest firmware version and now it works perfectly with the E series cards on my Mac. I still wish Panasonic would put both the Mac and PC updates on their site, but as long as it's working now, I can't really complain too much.
