FS7: PC XQD reader

This is why I stay with Macs. Maybe a little more expensive to buy and maybe a little less horsepower, but they just work. And that is priceless.

You may have noticed the mildly ironic language to my initial post - I dont disagree :)

However, the primary mission of this PC is to run software for my in development MoCo device

Now in the world of selfbuild moco and homebrew CNC software and data manipulation PC is king of the hill - especially to some one (me) with a certain skillset in VB scripting.

Processing video is a secondary mission for this machine - but it seems that even though it cost only $1000 that it might be quite good at it :)

Did the driver update/ suggestions links from cyvideo help?

Slightly different issue, but after a rather large Win10 update that came through for me this week, I found that I couldn't open Catalyst Browse on the updated computer. Turned out that as a result of the update I needed to update my GeForce graphics card drivers as well. Once I did so Catalyst was all good again.

Was there a specific XQD reader type that you were having problems with? I've had no issues with my MRW-E80 (used it yesterday on the Win10 machine)

In the past I've run into other card reader problems - which have been as much or more an issue with MACs than with PCs. For example the Kingston FCR-HS3 SD/CF/MicroSD reader started to transfer slower than 1GB/hr on my MBP. Apparently a firmware update was needed in the reader - of course it was impossible to update the firmware from a MAC - could only be done from a PC.. And anyone who remembers the early days of SxS cards (when MacBookPros still had expresscard slots) should recall the Gray Screen of Death kernel fault that inserting an SxS card into the computer would cause - and the half dozen months it took to get that one sorted out...

But on a whole other driver issue and question - a week ago I was on a shoot where the producer was hurrying at the end of the day and wanted to transfer an SxS card to his MBP - which seemed a bit newer than mine. (He had only brought one hard drive and were busy transferring Odyssey files to the drive - so figured that transferring an SxS card to his MBP would save time.) I had the Sonnet pro Thunderbolt/expresscard reader - but he didn't have the drivers installed. We did have wifi at the location, and he downloaded the drivers/installed/ and then needed to restart. On the restart the progress bar just hung. I was busy wrapping (4 cameras) so didn't actually see what had happened, but the MAC was out of commission for the rest of the day. He did apparently get it to 'go back in time' and start working the next day. Of course eventually the Odyssey transfer ended and I was able to xfer the SxS card to his hard drive with my MBP and the Sonnet. But having his computer go comatose trying to install the Sonnet drivers was a bit of a wake-up call. Just wondering if anyone else has run across this issue?

In general I try to avoid upgrading my MBP's OS, but found myself having to update to Sierra to get a newer version of a program to install. After the update several programs including my old Content Browser stopped working... Of course with my Win10 machine I seem not to be able to avoid the updates... but everything has kept working, even my ancient XDcam Browser software (with plug-ins) that still gets used to convert SxS cards to XDcamHD disks for two different clients (they both have the older XDcamHD players that only do 35Mbps 4:2:0)

Man, I just threw away this morning about 200 used 23GB and 50 GB disks that I didn't think would be worth re-formatting to sell. But I've got a couple dozen unopened 23GB disks still in the boxes. Let me know if you'd be interested in a good deal? I also dropped off a couple of Ikegami Betacams and a nearly new UVW-1800 deck at an electronics recycling center. Seemed really wierd to see what was once $75K worth of gear just sitting on the ground like empty tin cans.

Im at home with my portable computer, the reader is in the office so Ill see on monday :)

As for the type of card reader.. Ive got some different ones one, (my fav), has the plastic smashed off it* so no nomenclature - they all came with the purchase of my sony cards around the launch date of the camera.

I have two more a big chunky one with male USB (WTF!?) and another that is a 'popper' that I will have to deconstruct!

*done by me as it would pop the card out mid download so I had to de-spring it.

Yes Doug, strange as it may seem, a couple of the companies I shoot for still have about half a dozen 355's each...
If you have any boxes of new 50's left I'd be happy to pass your info on to them. (I'm serious - they do multicam shoots with long continuous roll times so the 23's are too short, even at 35Mbps.) I still have a few boxes of 23's on hand, which could be a lifetime supply at this point.

I have the lexar xqd reader. It is just plug and play on my windows PC. So I think the problem is not mac or pc relatded.

So this helped with an external XQD/usb reader as well? (The link description makes it look like the driver is only for the expresscard adapter???)

Well who knows - I installed it and got a result. Also I had tried a couple of other things so my process may not be perfect to guarentee anything.
