On the last part, yes.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

HAhahahaha holy crap people.... Chill out !  :o

It was a question and NOT a plug. I am a pro PC user I always have been and always will be.

The 800 FSB - 3.06HT issue is there. . . . I do not care what you say. It bottle necks the 3.06 GHz into 800 MHZ PERIOD. where as the Apple G5 has dual 2GHz which use 2 x 1GHz FSB meaning that you have a steady 2GHz flow. They also use bi-directional IO's. PC's DO NOT (YET !). Now on the other hand if PC's had the 1 GHz FSB then this question would not of popped up. (1GHz FSB due out this year.)

I am not saying that PC will not become or even already be faster. This I am aware of. And that's why I am a PC USER.

Oh and Brian saying I know nothing of computers... Sorry bud you are wrong there, I am a PC TECH for crying out loud. I know my stuff. I am sure you do too. but lets not turn this into a war. It was a legit question. As I am not a Mac user at all. The last Apple I used was the IIe LOL.

I was looking into the Matrox RX100 Xtreme card for my exsisting PC. I know that would boost my performance 100 fold.

Sorry that all of you took my question the wrong way as that is all it was . . . a question and a legit one at that.

Windows XP . . . . do not get me started on this POS. Now I know nothing about Mac OS but I am not to happy with XP either. (Do not know enough about Mac OS to compare)

All I know is Windows Longhorn (WIP) Is ment to be something else. (Can't wait)

Also my comment on Dual Xeon and P4 (not extreme) are true, All because of the low FSB and it being 1 IO. Instead of 2 Bi-directional. I am sure that is gonna change over the next few months.

All in all I have started a war and for that I am sorry. It was just a question. No need for people to get nasty. after all we are all mature adults here right ?

Like I said and I will say it again this MAC vs PC is nothing more than a neck in neck race..... Neither will win. PC's are where they are because of the user base..... Huge compared to Apple.

Anyways all, take care.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

At least Mac is trying.. they couldnt have power so they stoled the proc from PCcentric IBM.. there OS sucked balls so they stole Unix... Hell, if in a few years Apple started using pentium and AMD procs and used a OS from Microsoft, I just may switch.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

Where in any of my posts did I mention the new AMD ??? Uhhhhhh NO WHERE for a very good reason. I know very well how FSB works and the design behind it so do not give me a lecture about it please. ::)

I hate how people take such offense to topics. There are constructive ways to disagree with someone and some ppl do not know how to... that much is obvious. No need to be rude about it.

To those who were constructive in their replies (agree or disagree) I thank you.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

It's Jarred, and no worries..

The alienware in that add is one of the few companies that make decent looking PC's.. although thier new Alien looking thing is a little wierd. Apple in my opinion has always lead the way in design, without a question. But Vegas wont work on a mac, and most of the other programs I use wont, so I couldnt afford to switch.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

yeah my dad's business partner named me.. something to do with the sun.. dont ask me.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

It took me a while to actually find where in your initial post you even asked a question. I could give you an answer, but if you ask me, I think the answer is pretty obvious... ;D

Re: PC to Mac G5.

"Apple rulez." ;D

No way this guy's going to convince me that he isn't an Apple shill. As the Bard said, "doth protesteth too much."

Re: PC to Mac G5.

..ive run a digital recording studio for some time.. al pc based. musicians like macs for the same reasons.. they think they are better because mac has so much marketing thrown at these artistic groups.. when in fact again , the pc based software, and hardware does just as well if not better than the macs.. but music editing/recording isnt nearly as system intensive as video editing/compositing, and most software for musicians could be adequatley run on a comparitivily slow machine. espescially since most of the music proccessing is done on seperate dedicated boards or equipment .. its just the mac club thing again.. "if your an artist of any kind.. you need a mac!" thats the message out there.. its not true but who cares.. mac will ge the job done too.. most music software is made for both platforms now - whats unfortunate is that those who know better have to sit and listen to the mac users justify their ownership of a masterfully marketed average peice of equipment that they payed way to much for.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

It seems to me I recall Mac clones on the market about 10 years ago, but apparently a stop was put to that. THERE was an opportunity for Macs to compete with PCs, truly (and you Mac guys, don't throw a fit; the market has spoken in terms of real competitiveness). Multiple sources of hardware could have brought Mac prices down and spurred true innovation and customizability. But no, if you want a Mac, you need to buy one from Apple, and as such, they can charge pretty much anything they want. You can't really call them a monopoly, obviously, but for their architecture and OS, there's only one source.

Again, I have nothing against them, but buck for buck, your money's better spent elsewhere.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

Steve Rogers;

You are not READING my posts are you ? All you seem to do is flame and bad mouth me with out EVEN knowing me.

FIRST OFF - I am not a god damn Apple rep nore am I putting a plug for Apple. It was a legit question. MAYBE I could of worded it better. But I am not as informed as I wanted to be. THAT'S WHY I asked the question to get people's input.

SECONDLY - I did not mention the new AMD or the Opteron's because I had done no research on those. There for I was not able to compare.

THIRDLY - You are rather rude to me for asking these questions. All I did was ask. MOST people were helpful and although both positive and negitive comments I got the info I was looking for.... If you were truley OFFENDED then I am sorry. This post was not ment to be taken that way.

and FINALLY: I will say it again. I AM A PC USER... I always have been and ALWAYS WILL BE.

I only asked what people's thoughts on the G5 were, as a educational tool (school) Or on the productive side. The MAIN reason behind the question is that all of the local schools here only teach FCP....

I personaly would like to take an advance course on Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After FX 6.0. But no damn school here teaches that. That is the only reason why I was lookin at FCP.

It is obvious that I have not done reasearch in the right areas and I realize that now. I did do research on and off for 4 months like I stated, but alas I was not reading the right articals.

Am I admitting I am wrong YES I am because I was.... After doing some more in depth reading on the new AMD's.

BUT that still does not mean you have to flame me because of my posts. Please just be more constructive and less insulting. That's all I ask.

My current PC config is:

Intel P4 3.06 HT
2 GB Corsair (400MHz) Dual Channel DDR
ATI Radeon 9800XT 256 MB 8x AGP

Additional Upgrades:

Matrox RT.X100 Extreme
200 GB 8 MB - Serial ATA H.D.D

I have never used a real-time card before. What kind of increase in performance am I looking at with the Matrox Card I mentioned ?

Thanks Guys.

Re: PC to Mac G5.

Performance increases due to hardware add-on cards are highly subject to the NLE.  AFAIK, Premier Pro only has marginal support of the RTX100, and is regarded as much too buggy to be useful.  I personally don't use this card (nor Premier for that matter), so I'm only relaying the experiences of others.

Can we be done with all this Mac vs. PC stuff.  Look what it's done!  We're calling each other "Mac Reps" (an insult of the worst sort if I say so myself) just because someone fell prey to the "Mac Marketting Machine" (soon to be renamed to "M3" by Apple because it sounds more powerful) and bought into all the hype.  Just let it be.  Both platforms rule.  Why?  Because they both allow us to realize our visions (just like the DVX100).  By focusing on that, bits and bytes and mhz all become moot because if our vision is important enough to us, we'd use anything we could get our hands to see it fully realized, right?  Don't waste time worrying about what the "suites" want us to think is better, because that's totally missing the point!

While most of the mac vs. pc jeering was in good fun, the negative vibes are gettin' to me maaaaan!  :o
I'd just like to say I wouldn't mind if this thread was locked.  Hehe.  ;)
