Hello all;
As you all know there has been a battle going on and on about what system is better the PC or Apple. This is such a question but from a new point of view.
First off I am a PRO PC User. PC this PC that all I use is PC. But. . . . . Do you know when it is time to move to a new platform ? I sure do and it hurts to even think such a thing, but alas I have been forced into the Apple market ! Why you might be asking ? Well what do schools teach out there ? 90% of them teach on Apple systems.
I am talking about Final Cut Pro and Shaker to name a couple. Not to mention that the G5 series blows away any P4 or Xeon PC out there. (Sad but it is true)
How so ? The GHz is mere myth in most respects. 3.06 HT or the Xeon 3.2 on the PC platform (32 bit processors), while the Mac platform (G5) is using 2, 2 GHz TRUE 64 bit processors, running side by side with 2, 1 GHz front side bus, not to mention 400 mhz Dual Channel DDR memory. so at any time during its use, you are using a solid 2 GHz in Bus speed..... almost ZERO bottle necking. PC's only use a 800 FSB Single which means only 800MHZ at any given time, even if you have a P4 3.06.
So hardware wise Apple are way more powerful than ANY current PC on the computer front, yes even faster than the XEON or HT Systems, 70% faster as a matter of fact. PERIOD there is no debate on that.
Does that make Apple the system of choice ? No, not unless you are using it for 2D Graphics Design, 3D Graphics Design or Video Editing / DVD Mastering.
Apple computers are designed for the business user, the people that want zero down time and 100% productivity. While PC's are designed with the all around user in mind. The people that like to play games, surf the net and so on. So there are good and bad in both platforms.
Anyway to make a long story short. I need a Apple system. This is the one I am looking at: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...Kt18lUjN3Q/0.0.7.1.0.5.25.1.2.19.3.1.1.0?44,7
The only thing I am adding to it is 2 GB of ram.
It really hurts to buy a NON PC product but I know myself from the reasearch I have done (4 months worth) That my productivity on my new Apple G5 will jump to 150%.
My Current PC configuration is a P4 3.06HT w/800mhz FSB 2 GB DDR Ram, 160 GB Serial ATA Drive, Pioneer A06 DVD Burner.
So it is a powerhouse in it's own right. I did play with the G5 at my local store here and I was stunned at the speed video renders on it. It makes mine look like it is standing still.
I will use the Apple G5 for WORK and school ONLY and the PC for my gaming and fun times As anyone knows PC's own the gaming world. Hahaha.
I am a Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After FX 6.0 user..... And now I am dumping the lot to use Final Cut Pro.
After all within a couple years it will be the industry standard. Pixar entertainment use FCP to do all of their films. And look at those Not to mention tons of other movies are edited with FCP. Is AVID on the way out ? I am thinking slowly but it will be pushed out soon enough.
I have signed up for school to learn Final Cut Pro so I can be at the top of my game or atleast know what the hell I am doing
My question to you is this AM I NUTS or am I doing the right thing ?
Thanks for your time guys and gals.
