PC - Premiere HMC users? Help me out?

I shot some footage for a friend with my 150; he's editing on a PC using Premiere CS5.

I went ahead and converted the footage to ProRes on my (Mac) system in case I end up editing;

Gave him the camera card - on his PC with different card readers, he's seeing no folders or files - but it is showing 8GB used.

I did a test with Compressor and output the ProRes as Avid DNX - but they look like ass, very blocky. Didn't really dig in to making a preset though, just playing.

I did a test with MPEG Streamclip and output a DNXHD file at top quality - that looked fine, but the color seemed a little flattened/washed out.

I sent him a 10mb ProRes trim and asked him to try the ProRes for Windows Codec, if all else fails.

So, questions:

Any reason the PC would read a camera-formatted card as empty (sort-of-empty)? Showed up fine on my Mac.

Should I convert all the clips to DNXHD - there's maybe 20 of them, I could batch them in Streamclip and let 'er rip.

He mentioned his PC is a little outdated but I don't have the specs. He'll be intercutting the HMC footage with T2i and 7d footage, which he's worked with before without (far as I know) transcoding. Is there a better format for the guy? Keeping in mind he'll have DSLR footage on his timeline.

He's a musician and not very NLE literate, trying my best to help him out. Thanks for any advice.

...I can't think of any solutions for you, but you might want to make sure that you LOCK the SD card BEFORE you import anything into a computer. A computer can't do anything to the files on a locked memory card.

Your friend's SD card reader that he is using on his PC is too old and outdated to read your card.

He will need to buy a new USB 2.0 SDHC card reader, and then plug it into one of his USB ports. He will then be able to read your card just fine with his new reader.

Any reason you wanted to use the Windows Prores codec only as a last resort? I use it frequently and I haven't had any issues with it.

I think LanceOregon is right, for my larger cards I can read them on a Mac but not on a PC.

Thanks guys - he's bringing the card by.

As for ProRes - googling it showed a lot of random negativity but seemed a little more "I hate Apple" than real info. The ProRes clip I emailed him ran fine, he had the codec and didn't know it. He's coming by with a drive to grab the prores footage, I'll take a look at the card and tell him to look into a new card reader (as upgrades go, I think they're about 10 bucks on Amazon...)
