PC, not seeing P2 card. (HVX)

Hello, I just bought an HVX200 today. I installed the drivers, and I see the P2 card manager in my task bar. However, when I insert my P2 card (4gb) into the slot, it does not see the card.

I have an Alienware m15x. It lists on the website that it has an express card slot, but I was under the impression that a P2 card would not fit into anything other than a PCMCIA slot. The P2 card fits perfectly into the slot I have.

Have I simply installed the wrong driver? What are the exact steps I need to follow to have my computer recognize the P2 card when its inserted into the slot?

Yeah that's weird- are you sure it's a PCMCIA slot? The card wouldn't fit if it were expresscard. You can also try connecting to the card loaded into the camera via USB using PC mode- this is explained in your manual btw.

The USB method works. I really want to get the card reader working though, because that would mean much smoother work flow on shoots.
 
Does it go all the way into the slot? It should disappear completely and not stick out at all.

If it sticks out, it's probably an ExpressCard slot.

Otherwise, when you installed the drivers, did you check the box for the PCMCIA slot?
 
Yeah, ExpressCard comes in 34mm and 54mm sizes. A P2 card would slide into a 54mm ExpressCard slot, but it won't plug into the contacts at the end.
 
Ah, it does not disappear completely. It seems to connect into something, though. Maybe its just hitting the back.

So I need to buy the adapter, then? Do they sell that at B&H?

I have Barry's HVX Bootcamp... you really cant properly use the camera without these instructions.

I have a new Vista 32bit HP quad extreme laptop with DreamColor, etc.

I downloaded the p2 driver.
The Device Mgr lists the laptop slot as PCMCIA. When I do the test... it says its working properly. When I click the P2 icon, my 16gb card shows no serial number or any info in the p2 fields... in fact no info is displayed. The p2 goes in... except for the rough end area, obviously made to grip with your fingers.

When I try to import on Avid Media Composer v3.x, a note says please put card into slot.... which it already is.

I have HD footage on it, which plays on the HVX.

When I installed the driver... and I clicked "install" ...the box clicks off for half a second, then gives me the option of Install...or Cancel... I reclick Install...over and over.... untill I click Cancel. Another box says successfully installed.

Any thoughts?
