PC Mode Clarification

The manual not being the picture of clarity and Barry's book still not available . . . . I was wondering about mounting the cam on the desktop of a Mac and dismounting it.

I understand that I connect cam and firewire to a Mac and turn on the cam.

Then switch to PC Mode Firewire to mount the cam to import the cards.

But once that's done, do I drag the mounted cam to the trash to unmount it, and the turn it off?

To use the cam again, no resetting of anything?

thanks

First install the Panasonic driver (either from CD or from the website).

In Camera mode...go to the Menu>Other Function>PC Mode>1394 Device (Not 1394 Host which is to dump to a powered FW hard drive). Hit the menu button twice to get out of the menu box.

Push the MCR/VTR button.
After you switch to MCR/VTR mode, you need to press the MCR button again and hold it for several seconds. You'll see 1384 Device flash a few times and then 1384 Device Connect. This will mount the "No Name" volumes (No Name and No Name 1 if you have a second card). They are like hard drive volumes. You can copy/edit from there. Treat them like any firewire volume. Dismount them (drag them to the trash or CMD-E them). Once they are not on the desktop, you can turn the camera off. When you turn the camera back on, you will be back in camera mode.

BTW:
You can switch P2 cards once they are dismounted and the new ones will mount again (kind of like a CD/DVD drive). So if you have a lot of cards, you can keep going until your done...

Unless you trashed/emptied the files from the P2 cards on the desktop (assuming you already copied them somewhere else), you will have to format the cards in the camera. The .txt file is locked, so you'll have to unlock it by going to the "Get Info" information and click the unlock checkbox. Then you can trash both .txt and "Contents" folder. Empty trash by holding the option key and selecting empty trash from your OSX file menu. Your card will then be ready to go.
