Im Selling My Mac Because It Cant Handle The Footage. What Pc Programs Work For You? Has Anyone Burned Footage To Dvd Like A Feature. Hows The Quality. Any Problems With Your Pc Programs Let Me Know. I Need Help Thanks Guys.

There's no way NAB will come and go in April without an update to FCP to handle 720p24. Save your money. There's workarounds to get you through til then.

dont have time I have to finish this feature for april. Who has a operational pc work station and what are the specs and programs? thanks

Premier Pro 2 with Cineform's Aspect HD 4.0 would be your cheapest option. I've been using that workflow for a little while now, and I get great real-time performance from it.

If you're an Avid guy, there's supposed to be an upgrade within weeks of now that will allow 24p ProHD capture. For right now, you can only do 30p stuff with the HD100 in Avid. The ability to transcode your footage to DnxHD, though, provides an awesome tool. Dnx is a killer codec. As far as post-production work is concerned, it's second to none, (well, I guess it's second to uncompressed YUV...)

If your PC is outdated, then you might not be able to get realtime performance out of it with Avid- but you might be surprised at what you can do with the Premier/Cineform coupling. Aspect HD's real-time acceleration is very good.

What is the mac configuration? I'm running a dual G4 1.2Ghz and everything runs great with Hd100 footage (in both native and AIC.)

I'll share my PC specs, but bear in mind that my system is a bigtime example of overkill for what you need to do HD Editing...

Athlon X2 3800+ Overclocked to 2.9 Ghz
2 Gigs of Mushkin Xtreme DDR
2x Western Digital Raptor 74 Gig Striped, RAID 0
2x Maxtor DiamondMax 300 Gig Stripe, RAID 0
500 Gig Lacie External Big Disk Extreme, RAID 0
ATI X850 PCIex X16 Graphics

I can guarantee you, though, that any Athlon clocked at 2.0 Ghz or more, or any P4 clocked at 3.0 or more, along with a gig of RAM and even an entry-level PCIe graphics card will give you more than enough horsepower to do anything you need to with HD video in Avid or Premier Pro 2.

He must have one heck of an old Mac...

Pretty much any G4 or G5 should be able to wail on HD footage.

Ronin- call me tomorrow ater 6am at 661-305-9564 or right now (i'm taking a risk giving my number out over this boatd publicly but the situation warrants it so all of you please respect it). I'll arrange a full Premiere 2.0 w/ Cineform editing suite for your immediatel use tomorow to finish your project and you can make your decision after that. I hope this helps.
Jonathan

Sorry for the brief post but time seemed to be of the essence.
1) I don't know where you are Ronin but if it's anywhere in the US, I'll be happy to spot you to transportation via air into LA if you need to get your job done and get you set up with a state-of-the-art complete Adobe/Matrox Axio suite w/ Audition, Encore, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator the worx and a tech from Adobe if you need it, HD system and quiet editing suite to use so you can meet your deadline. Again, been there, done that and no one was ever there for my wife and me when we ran into problems and we swore we would be if we were ever in the position to do so; and
2) Please respect my private cell number folks. Ronin needs help and I don't have time to PM and the rest of the @#$% Jared has so thoughtfully put in for security reasons. Again, time dictates action and Rinin needs help so please don't needlessly call my cell on a punk/prank thing. I don't think the majority of you would but there's always that 0.5% who think it's funny. It's not. This Board is here to help people.

Here's my PC and what i use:

Dell Dimension 8400 P43.0
2G RAM
2 160G SATA 10k RPM Drives (Non Raid)
1 250G Western Digital Firewire External Drive
NViDia Geforce 6800 256MB Video Card
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 5.1 Sound Card

For editing HD files, I use Vegas 6d and Cineform Connect HD as an intermidiary. So far, no problems. Rendering time is LONG, but it's pretty much going to be.

Hi Ronin,

Jonathon's offer may solve your problem. Wow. That's why these boards are so helpful.

But in case this is helpful, using Sony VEGAS 5 and the below specced computer Ben Buie (Business partner/producer) and I edited a 1 hour docudrama for DVD release. (Not sure about 2 hours on DVD).

Pentium 4 3.06 processor
1 Gig Rosewill Ram
480 Gig of video SATA drives, with operating software and Sony VEGAS on 80 Gig C: drive
ATI Radeon 9200 video card with digital / analog / NTSC output
20" Dell Trinitron monitor
DVD +R burner

Lately we have been using VEGAS 6 with cineForm HD for both capture and editing. It runs fast.

Capture and conversion with Cineform ConnectHD from m2t format to avi is fast. This Sony VEGAS 6 system is capable of realtime playback of effects from the time line with no waiting for pre-render required. We have previously edited with 8-10 video and audio timelines in the edit window.

If you are located in the southeast USA GA, FL, TN, Carolinas or nearby send an e-mail and we may arrange to edit your project on the PC edit system. How many gig of footage do you have? If you are out west you may want to work with Jonathon. Have you already captured footage to hard drive?

Also note that my edit rig is in my living room and this will not allow around the clock editing the way a real edit studio might. But, please contact me if I can be helpful.

Another option on the PC is EDIUS PRO. Its a stable NLE from Canopus. Much Faster than Premier Pro 1.51 and a little faster than Premier Pro 2.0. Even as a software only solution, this NLE is stable. Titler is from Inscriber, same as premiere. Version 3.1 can handle HD but go for version 3.6 for it supports 24P and captures m2t files to your drive. There is a TS writer module for you to print HD back to your tape. For hardware with EDIUS PRO, canopus has the affordable NX for HDV card with component out.

Hope this helps.

I Recommend Liquid. It works with all modes of the ProHD spec as well as mixes 5.1 surround, SD & HD timeline and it has the most advanced 8 bit rendering of any NLE.

good luck with whatever you choose...

First off, thanks for no phone calls in the middle of the night folks and as to the 14, yes 14 good-natured PMs I got this am, my offer was just a stop-gap measure to get him through, Ron, Jam, Stephanie and the others who haunt this place. You can't come live with us and let your mothers and wives buy you Christmas presents!!! ;-)

And finally, Ed's right, that IS what this Board's all about, each of us contributing as we are able.

Will PP2 digitize/edit/output the jvc signal naitively at 24p? Or is there a conversion process?

Thanks, John.

PS - is Aspect HD 4.0 a video card, or a plug-in? If its a plug-in, do you need a seperate video card?

PPS - Jonathan, you totally rule!

Aspect HD is a plugin for PP2, which uses the Cineform codec. You will, indeed, be doing your editing natively at 24p with that workflow. One of the best things about Aspect HD is that it also includes its own set of transitions and effects that you can preview out in realtime- no extra hardware needed.

Avid, Premier, Liquid, Edius.....yada, yada, yada. All of these programs do basically the same job- it just comes down to your personal preference and which interface makes the most sense to you.
