Premire 2 Or Vegas ? If You Guys Had To Pick

I've only used Premeire a couple times, and not version 2. I purchased Vegas 6 and feel it's everything I need at this point in the game.

Full Rez- On your last post, I'm waiting to hear from Jared relative to whether or not he wants to combine the shindigs. He's got a 2-dayer planned and as soon as I hear from him, I'll secure the location send out the invites .

Vegas is easily the best for doing intensive sound work out of all the PC-based editors- but it's interface for video editing may seem strange to you as it's a bit unconventional. I'd recommend that you try it out and see if it jibes with you or not before you put all your eggs in that basket.

For that matter, both Premier Pro 2 and Vegas 6 have free trials that can be downloaded from their respective websites, and Cinform offers both Aspect HD and Connect HD in a trial form as well- so why not just download both and pick the one that seems like the best fit for you?

Also, FullRez, I'm coming into town on Friday, the 21st with the new Motorcoach. We'll be hooked up at the new RV park at Circus-Circus. I know, big ? on the Casino/Hotel accommodations so I've heard but 5-star diggs at it's motorcoach facility! Anyway, I like sleeping in a bed with sheets and pilowcases that I know where they've been! And it really is a travelling home on wheels w/ big screen/ Dolby Surround Sound theatre system, full bar, kitchen, living room, bath and all the comforts of home. So you're welcome over whenever you get into Sin City and that goes for all who are planning on visiting NAB this year. But the really great thing is it's 2-blocks from the Convention Center!!! No more $50 cab rides ... the long way. Have you seen the traffic there lately? And if you don't know your way around, be prepared; whatever way your cabbie tells you IS the short way...as the meter keeps on a'tikkin'!

Aspect HD is a plugin for PP2, which uses the Cineform codec. You will, indeed, be doing your editing natively at 24p with that workflow. One of the best things about Aspect HD is that it also includes its own set of transitions and effects that you can preview out in realtime- no extra hardware needed.

Thanks or the knowlege! Looks like Pro 2.0 for me....

I'll share my PC specs, but bear in mind that my system is a bigtime example of overkill for what you need to do HD Editing...

Athlon X2 3800+ Overclocked to 2.9 Ghz
2 Gigs of Mushkin Xtreme DDR
2x Western Digital Raptor 74 Gig Striped, RAID 0
2x Maxtor DiamondMax 300 Gig Stripe, RAID 0
500 Gig Lacie External Big Disk Extreme, RAID 0
ATI X850 PCIex X16 Graphics

I can guarantee you, though, that any Athlon clocked at 2.0 Ghz or more, or any P4 clocked at 3.0 or more, along with a gig of RAM and even an entry-level PCIe graphics card will give you more than enough horsepower to do anything you need to with HD video in Avid or Premier Pro 2.

Why do some people get cineforms aspect HD if they have Premiere pro 2.0 ?

I haven't heard from Jared yet so I'll assume we'll just do a separate deal. His no doubt will be killer. Mine??? Well, lets see what I can put together for those of you who want to meet and greet and we'll see what companies I can get there. As soon as things are firm, I'll post the when and where and we'll go from there and have a ball! I really look forward to meeting all of the people and putting names to faces!

Because PP2 in standalone form only allows you to start HDV projects at 180i 50, 1080i 60, and 720p 30. Aspect HD integrates into PP2 and gives you the following additional options: 720p 24, 720p 25, 1080p 24 (for both Sony and Canon's 24f features), 1080p 25, 1080p 30, 720p 50, and 720p 60.

On top of all that- you get better realtime performance using Cineform's codec within Premier than you do editing off of native transport streams, and Cinform's codec will hold up better through multiple layers of compression than native HDV will.

what kind of capture-card?

what kind of capture-card?

Hi filmguy1974!

What kind of capture-card do you use?

I heard from my dealer that very expensive card is eligible for working in real-time with PP2 and aspect HD?

What speed you get with your comfiguration?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the brief post but time seemed to be of the essence.
1) I don't know where you are Ronin but if it's anywhere in the US, I'll be happy to spot you to transportation via air into LA if you need to get your job done and get you set up with a state-of-the-art complete Adobe/Matrox Axio suite w/ Audition, Encore, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator the worx and a tech from Adobe if you need it, HD system and quiet editing suite to use so you can meet your deadline. Again, been there, done that and no one was ever there for my wife and me when we ran into problems and we swore we would be if we were ever in the position to do so; and
2) Please respect my private cell number folks. Ronin needs help and I don't have time to PM and the rest of the @#$% Jared has so thoughtfully put in for security reasons. Again, time dictates action and Rinin needs help so please don't needlessly call my cell on a punk/prank thing. I don't think the majority of you would but there's always that 0.5% who think it's funny. It's not. This Board is here to help people.

No- your dealer is confused. Aspect HD doesn't require any special hardware to work in real time- any halfway decent consumer-level system will work splendidly.

What your dealer was talking about was PP2's ability to work uncompressed in realtime with the AJA Xena HS capture card, which retails for around $1,600. Bear in mind that this card is not required to work in real-time in native HDV, or Aspect HD projects.

Thank you, ncje. We have hosted families from both Hong Kong and Tokyo before so please consider our offer offer our humble home for your use as well should you find yourself in Caifornia.
