Would this work?

It's an adapter that lets you plug in PC cards into your computer CF slot. It only works for 16-bit cards, but according to a white-paper from panasonic P2 cards ARE compatible with 16-bit slots @ 3.3volts.

The thing is, I'm thinking about getting a samsung Q1b UMPC, but it doesn't have a PC card slot, just a CF card slot. I'd like to be able to use it for offload to an external drive, since it's so portable.

I know that if it worked it would be slow, but I don't really care. Speed is not my concern in the instances I picture using this setup, I just am curious if it will work.

Thanks for the help.

Ever thought about a USB drive?

Ever thought about a USB drive?

No idea, if your suggested combi really works.
Looking for a memory based camera myself (HVX or EX), I'd rather opt for a HD based solution *sans* laptop. One that comes to mind in that context is an OTG USB drive (On The Go with integrated battery) like the Sarotech Cutie DX OTG.

Find more info about that OTG drive here: www.sarotech.com/english/cgi/pd.cgi?cmd=view&rno=6

Won't work. No generic adapter will ever work, it has to be specifically designed to be P2-compatible. If it doesn't specifically say it's compatible with P2, then it isn't.

I have an OTG drive. I love it, but it slows you down. With the 16 gig cards that'll be much less of an issue, but still...

At any rate, I think I'm going to get a libretto anyway, which has a cardbus slot.

Screw it. Computers and cameras are my life, why not plunk down another month's salary, eh?

Thanks for the help guys!
