PC cant play GH4 quicktime?

So i work with a PC and i use a mac for personal use. My company has a lot of restrictions but I can open my gh2 and gh3 quicktime files and play them fine. When I film with my gh4 the files wont open on my PC but work normal on my mac. Is there a way to fix this? Does the GH4 shoot with a different codec than the gh3/gh2 did? Do i need to install anything special to open the quicktime files from the GH4?

When I shoot with mp4 the files work on my PC (havent tried them on my mac yet), so should i just start shooting mp4? is the quality going to be as good? Will i have to match mov and mp4 when mixing my gh3/gh4 or does the gh3 have a good mp4 mode as well? I dont have it with me to test and have never even thought about shooting mp4 before.
 
What editing software are you using to view the clips? GH4 .mov clips play fine on my Edius 5.51 also ok with the VLC media player.
 
its not a problem with the editing software ( i use premiere though ), i cant play the files raw, i cant download quicktime which might be the problem but i dont understand why i can open the gh2 and gh3 quicktime files then
 
I assume when you refer to "quicktime files", you mean .mov files. I have no problem playing .mov files in Quicktime Player (v7.7.3) on my Win 8 PC. Well, "no problem" is a stretch -- they play fine, but at a slower frame rate than realtime. I have to use VLC if I want to see the clip at actual speed.

But one problem I've noticed when playing GH4 .mov clips in VLC is that the colors and contrast are way off compared with QT (and with my editor, AE).

For some reason Windows Media Player cannot play the 4K files from the GH4. If you try the 1080p files, they should work fine, at least they do on my PC. I use VLC player to play them, but if you can't download any additional software to your computer, you may be in trouble.

Ah, thanks, I'm sure that's what the OP meant. I don't know why I thought it was referring to QT Player. And of course you're very right; WMP can't play GH4 4K files.
 
Dang. Thanks, they are Quicktime Movie Files/.mov and the 1080p are opening with WMP but the 4k wont. They do open in premiere so im glad i dont have to convert them to mp4 or 1080p before editing.
