PC based intermediate codec for h.264 Canon MOV and Panasonic AVCHD clips ???

Looking for an intermediate codec for converting Canon T3i, Panasonic TM700 and GH2 AVC H.264 files on a PC.

I've tried Avid DNxHD with MPEG_Streamclip and Vegas Movie Studio 10, but there is a significant gamma shift and file sizes 6 times the original. The biggest issue is that it doesn't have a native 29.97fps output as all my clips are 1080/30p and 1080/60p.

Any links for XDCAM HD422 codec to use through MPEG_Streamclip or Vegas MS 10? I can't even find a location to buy that codec much less a way to simply try it.

I'd love to end up with 50 - 80 Mbps 1920x1080 29.97fps files that can be dropped directly into FCP or Vegas down the road.

Sorry if this question has been asked, but I've been searching for three days and haven't found a proper solution that I'm comfortable with.

Cheers,
Pete

Neoscene? That's what I use with Vegas pro 10.c. I think there are limitations with Vegas ms vs pro (32 bit vs 64?) I thought Xdcam was native to. Vegas? Bring your x.264 into pro and output them in xdcam?

Thanks 8string, tried the Cineform Neoscene trial, but as you noted, it doesn't appear as one of the options to render the timeline in VMS10. I don't have Pro 10, so I can't confirm what it can or can't do.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers,
Pete

I just got off the phone with the folks at Cineform. I can get to their codec in Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10 (VMS10).

The sequence goes like this:

Project => Render as:
Click "Custom" button on the lower right side
Select Windows AVI
Select HD 1080-24p YUV
Select Codec => Cineform HD

Once there, you can customize it to your project and desired output. At the top you write in what you are doing and save that as a new preset.

I've got some more testing to do on the options, but it looks like I'm in business with an intermediate that most anyone will be able to read into their NLE that's nearly lossless.

Thanks again 8string for the hint on going with Cineform.

Cheers,
Pete
