Pausing while recording

Just to be clear...for the novice...

(before I record something really meaningful) :)

Pausing while recording is a no no, correct? From what I've read, it seems that it can give you timecode breaks which will make it difficult to import. Is that right?

So, my next question: what happens when there is a stop in action? I'm planning on recording some interviews for a documentary. If the interviewee needs to get a drink of water, or go to the bathroom, or...???....do I just stop completely and pick up where I left off?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You have to pause at some point!
You'll have timecode breaks if you playback the footage & stop the playback after the screen goes blue. (thats when the timecode breaks off)
Thats why you use the End search button when you done playing back your footage.

Yes, right, of course - stopping is a good thing.

But, just so I understand...you can STOP, then use the end search to locate the stopped point and start recording again. But the pause just causes timecode breaks. Is that correct?

Thanks!

Every time you stop, it's considered a pause, so I'm kind of confused why you separate the two as if they're two different things.

The only thing that causes a Time Code Break is if you review the tape in camera after recording it and let it play into the blue, then try to keep recording. You have to use the end search button so the camera will find the last recorded frame and start recording right after that. That will maintain a steady Time Code.

Simply pausing, does not break timecode.

When your recording & you press the button to stop it does not cause timecode break. It just pauses the recording.
When you want to record again it just picks up right where you left off on the tape ( which was the stopping point )

When you stop recording the timecode stops. When you go and review to look you mess up the timecode.

I see...I guess I don't know what I was thinking or how I got it into my head that pausing it, or stopping it would cause it to break timecode. ONLY if I go back to view material will it break timecode...okay, understood.
:embarasse

I could've sworn I saw that somewhere online...accept my apologies for asking stupid questions, and thank you for taking the time to straighten me out!

:dankk2:
