partition or not on 1TB offload drive

Depending on how you actually utilize the drive some advantages can be found making two partitions. Using a program like Partition Magic you can situate a partition near the beginning of the drive, where transfer rates are higher.

also by partitioning, u may extend the life of the drive. it can be argued, but it used to be good practice to partition to decrease surface disk use and seek time. instead of having to travel through all 1 tb of the surface area to retrieve data, computer will default to stick with just your partition size. people used to do this to increase the shelf life of a hard drive. probably not so much the case anymore since the quality of drives have gotten a lot better lately. partitioning can also help prevent bad sectors from eating up the whole drive, and stay in the single partition. but generally most people just use the full disc for offloading, and make backups of the backups. drives are dirt cheap these days anyway, and are getting cheaper.

Have not partitioned a drive- pretty much ever in my life. It's a waste of time and can add a layer of confusion to which drive on your desktop corresponds to which piece of physical media. Avoid.

i used to partition for various reasons back in the 1990's but its seems to me today that its just a case of noodling for the sake of noodling.
