Paranormal Activity - New Horror Movie is the Next Blair Witch

Maybe he/they got a deal to produce/direct a future feature.
I'm sure the director did. I'm just willing to bet that the actors got squat.

They'll get their fifteen minutes of fame and move on. They were probably paid by Peli and the studio owes them nothing. Paramount would have had to deal with Peli though.

Edit: Sounds like they may not be interested in him at all...

Not saying it could hurt them at all. But they're just not getting "serious cash" as you suggested.

You think those actors from Blair Witch are rolling in the dough? :)
The creators/directors barely got a slice.

Wow.. o.k., I guess I misspoke Michael. Although, for an unknown actor who's use to acting for free...to me... even $200 a day would be better than nothing. They implied that they were getting something more...either way, doesn't make one bit of difference to me. I'm just glad it's working out for them.

I would think everyone here would be happy to see this happening and it would give hope to all the filmmakers that one day, maybe, they too could make such a successful movie on a really small budget. Even if the creators/directors/actors aren't making anything, it will still open doors for them (one hopes).

...and that's a good thing...right?

Absolutely! If I seemed bothered it's by the fact that BW and PA made these studios millions of dollars. Meanwhile, the people who did all the work got nothing in comparison. Especially the actors.

That pisses me off.

So I didn't want people to misread your comments and think they made out like gangbusters. They didn't. Peli may get lucky, but he could be a fluke. Even his payday was low.

I'm definitely routing for him.

Yeah, I bet Paramount is making all the money from this. The thing is, neither Peli or whoever else involved in the film could of predicted this, so my believe is that, just the fact a Major like Paramount was interested in the film was enough for them to be happy enough to sign what ever contract was presented in front of them, and you know the contract had to have been in Paramount's favor. Peli probably got the short end of the stick, unless Arri Gold was his agent if he even had an agent to negotiate at the time.

Where he will make money is, if he is able to ride out this publicity for the best. And the key also is, if he gets with a great agency like CAA or ICM etc..

This is where the business side of things will come in handy for him. He needs to turn this opportunity into a successful long term career and not just that phenomenon it has become. But who knows how any of us in that situation would handle it. I wish him the best.

And I hope he does take care of his actors down the line cause I bet they got even a shorter end of the stick then he did…lol

Yeah it's a bummer... but just like the music business... it's just that, business. Film studios and record labels are just the "Bankers" of their industries. The idea is to make money, period. No one really cares about the writers, directors, actors or any of the hundreds of people who bust ass to create something special. :crybaby:

Sad, but true. It's all about money....after all, Money makes the world go round!

I guess writers, actors and crew should be making deals with directors...who should be making deals with the studios so everyone is covered....and World Peace, yes... there should be World Peace!

Why would he get so little from it?

So little? Man, that's a lot of money for a $15k movie. I was shocked to hear Goodman paid more than $50k for it.

Do you know how many indies would like to shoot a movie in 7 days for $15k and sell it for $300k? They did pretty well. Very few indies can do that and Schneider & Blum got most of the $300k.

I get that.

The fact of the matter is they are now making millions off Peli's work and he (and the actors) really got the short end of the deal. Any self respecting human being would look back and say... let's give them a little bonus since we're making far more than we thought.

Is that going to happen? Probably not.

That proves my point. The artist gets screwed. Oh well. Such is the biz...

If I shot a movie in my house in 7 days with no script, thought it was good and didn't 4 wall it I'd be screwing myself. They are 1 out of 1,000 that made a movie for $15k and made 20x their money on it. They had the chance, they didn't take it. The could have made over $1M in 4 or 5 college towns 4 walling it in 30 days and failed to capitalize on it. I didn't read their contract but it could have had a clause to pay Peli $1M+ after the remake was done, who knows, maybe more so I doubt intentions were to screw them, they just didn't do the remake.

It's a fluke, he's not a director that will be in big demand however Schneider is in really big demand, 20ish projects in the works right now. He will be a BIG player in 5 years.

I don't care how you paint it, he got ripped off.

If I made something for 15k. Sold it for 30k (because that's what he pocketed).
And it made upwards to 100 million dollars.... (already made >60million with Halloween yet to come)

I got shafted. :)

I don't care if it's an invention, a song, a movie, whatever. The rich get richer.

Very few artist have business skills, I'm friends with a professor that teaches a mass media / production class at a major university and he asked me what I thought he should teach them, I told him basic business fundementals in the business.

As of today Paramount has put $10M into marketing it, they risked $10M on a $15k movie, they deserve the money.

Like I said, you can paint it any way you want. I disagree. The producers made way more than Peli did. I'll agree to disagree at this point.

PS- I didn't even love this movie. :)

If directors are making more than exec producers there is a big problem.

Yea, I still haven't seen it. Since I know so much about it I lost the desire I had to go see it, I might try to catch it later this week or after Halloween.
