Paramount buys "Like Crazy" @Sundance for $4M, shot on the Hot Rod 7D-PL

Is that right? When is your next feature using the Canon XL H1? Better yet.. do you think George Lucas will invite a DP over to shoot with an AF100.

No camera has ever penetrated the market as rapidly as the HDSLR and are being used as A, B & C cameras from the high end to the low end productions. You can love'em or hate'em but they are here to stay and will take a big chunk of the production market.

Lastly, its always been about the story.. remember Blairwitch. The point is if you have a good story, you now have a camera for under 3k that can deliver that filmic quality we all have been chasing.

Interesting Side note:

It was actually my personal HotRod Cameras PL7D (serial Number 0001 by the way) that was rented to the production of "Like Crazy" through Digital Film Studios in Los Angeles. Great people there and great gear 818.771.0019

The same camera was later subrented to Birns and Sawyer by way of Sim Video and promptly STOLEN by renters using FRAUDULENT CREDENTIALS.

Birns and Sawyer has still refused to pay for the lost Rentals that I missed out on during the 10 week period following the time of theft… An estimated sum of around $6400

DEADBEATS…

I still have the serial number of the camera written down if anyone sees a suspicious PL7D somewhere...

So a movie shot on a 7D at Sundance and gets bought for 4 mil and we're asking about budgets. This place is so funny.

This is great news no matter how much money they made and it further entrenches the HDSLR as a professional tool. This is still a new technology and just wait till the next generation of these cameras are introduced, which will hopefully resolve some of the known issues... the revolution continues.

I think the GH2 could already be described as a second generation DSLR. True 1080p resolution, no moire and very low aliasing, good monitoring etc, etc. The only part that some could argue is the smaller size sensor but it is only a little smaller. It could come even better with the work on a hack and uncompressed hdmi output. I am not advocating a complete change of system from Canon to 43 mount (Just need an adapter to mount Canon lens). It is not because Canon is still using the same tech from the 5d mark2 with its issues that people should think that these are inherent to the DSLR. It is not as the Gh2 is the proof.

Indeed. I think Anton Yelchin is well known enough. And Jennifer Lawrence definitely is. AKA Best Actress Academy Award nominee?

I knew something reeked of "Hollywood Indie" here. I mean it's a great story that proves once again it's less about the format. Kudos to those guys. But I want to hear the story about the guys who shot an indie feature on a digital rebel for $2000 with no stars, cut it on their PC laptop and sold it to "whoever" for 4 million bucks. None of this "we shot it on a 7D but used Arri primes, pro actors and had it colored at Technicolor." I can hardly relate to this story. I mean just because they used a 7D doesn't mean the game has changed. It's still all about who you know.

I've seen some great indie features over the years that never made it because they didn't go through the "Hollywood Indie" circuit.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the names Anton Yelchin & Jennifer Lawrence, and from a marketing perspective I would expect their names not to be an audience draw so much as to affect the films budget. And for a film like this given the quality of the script, even well known stars work for nearly nothing sometimes.

anton yelchin played a major role in Star Trek one of the largest blockbusters in recent years and is due to reprise his role in the upcoming sequel.
