Panasonic's new version of HPX300

For all who were asking when it's coming out. Good News! Hard to believe.

As I mentioned before the announcement on April 5th

And it will be out by the end of april at it's distributors.

If you go to this--> https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/sales_o/02products/products/ag-hmx100/AG-HMX100_pre_PE.pdf

On the second page- top left corner there is a reference to the HPX370 series along with the HPX300.

Jim

Here's a curiosity -- I just went back to that page and the hidden reference to HPX370 seems to have been removed altogether. I never could see the words like you could, but did notice there was a text box there with a right mouse click bringing up the option for a "contextual web search for AG-HPX370 series." That's gone. Same for you even with a page refresh?

Wow. I am surprised at much of this. 1) an 'update' to the 300. 2) no?? update to the 500. 3) another new panny camera leaked to DVXUSER.

I have to say, that the 370 may deal with some of the issues that dissuaded me from the 300. Low light performance is very important to me. However, 1/3" DOF and dynamic range is also a problem for me, too bad its not at least 1/2".

I like the ergonomics and the picture of the 500, but have been waiting on an upgrade before actually investing in one. Unless the 370 has a lot more to offer than stated, I might just continue to rent the 500 or 2000.

I was a skeptic on DVXUSER leaks, but now I am becoming a believer. This forum must attract people in the know. Thanks, photojournalist.

1/3" vs 1/2" is just a 1/2 stop of DOF.
2/3" vs 1/3" is just one stop of DOF.
I dont see the clamor for it. maybe better color and dynamic range for bigger sensors would be more acceptable but DOF? It's almost the same.

photojournalist...........

I remember when everybody blasted me about saying there would be a 300...

Cheers

Sounds good, but continuing with 1/3 sensors with 2.2 megapixels seems like asking for trouble. The first HPX300 had noise issues due to so much information in such a small sensor. Comparing apple to oranges, Panasonic had a similar problem in their Consumer pocket photo cameras. They had the LX1, a truly remarkable small camera that had, according to some ,noise issues (personally I thought it was more than acceptable) which was then addressed in the LX2, a camera that kept the same sensor size of the original but introduced a new version of their "Venus Engine". The result was less noisy picture with the trade-off of less detail. The search for the pristine noiseless image continued, mainly due to Canon and Sony's implementation of noise reduction (which meant less detail, but people didn't seem to care), and Panasonic had to follow, abandoning detail in the process.

Of course, this example was on the still market.

I think the main development of this camera will be on the Cmos read speed, bringing less skew and more usable frame rates.

However, the lack of a bigger sensor is a disappointment.

Can you back this up somehow, or is that common knowledge that I´m lacking?
A HVX and an EX1 at same focal length and with same object/camera and camera/BG distance will have the same DOF when the HVX is half a stop more open than the EX1?

BVX,

Yes, it's gone. But we both know it was there at one time because it appears in the grab I posted a few pages back. Interesting move by Panasonic to remove it.

oops sorry, sorry i was wrong. (my memory is pretty bad)
its 1 stop for 1/2"
and its 1.66 stop for 2/3"
heres the link to the article

IMO still not that big as 2/3" -> m43 or APS-C

Too funny! The phantom/disappearing camera reference document!

Consumer 1 "I saw it, I swear I saw it!"
Consumer 2 "No, really, I have an original grab of it!"

Hmmm... was that Panasonic viral marketing at work???

How could one not think there is an upgraded version coming when they drop the price to under $7000 with over $1100 worth of P2 cards? My question was whether I accept the compromise of the older camera in exchange for what appears to be about a 40% discount. Since I am operating on a shoestring, anyhow, I decided to take the bait and my HPX300 arrived the same day as photojournalist's original post. Oh, well - it is what it is.

It's getting curiouser and curiouser . . .

As this thread is getting mentioned on other forums & blogs, the HPX370 listing has been removed from the EVS site. Hmmm.

And, the B&H price for the HPX500 has dropped a bit more to $9900 w/o lens. How about a new HPX570 too?

I liked it better when I still believed in Santa Claus and I was surprised by announcements at NAB.

I guess I'm just too old school. I took the 300 out before it was announced for a test spin in Africa. Never signed a non-disclosure but never told anyone because I felt it was the right thing to do.

So Jan I'll be happy to test out another camera and I won't tell a soul this time as well. :)
Still waiting for that 170ish camera with a bigger zoom. I'd be a happy camper. :)

A Pany dealer in Central America confirm that they will have the new HPX310 for this region. But he doesnt know when it will be available for the US.

I think the pre NAB rumors talk started a bit late this year, but glad that it´s all business as usual now
And as usual there will only be evolution, not revolution.
But an updated 300 will make many guys happy here...

Only high hopes I have right now is CinvergentDesign teaming up with Canon for fullHD via HDMI recording...
Now where is my Supertramp LP...:violin:

HPX370 is confirmed. I've heard the News Broadcast people in the Asian countries are making their pre-purchases already.
