Panasonic's new AG-CX350 camcorder

Procedure of changing from UHD with shutter speed 1/50 (Europe, established over synchro scan) to super slow and back to UHD normal mode with 1/50 - very complicated if I am not wrong:

1. enter the menu to change to HD
2. select super slow ,assigned to a user buttom, shutter speed changes to 1/100

way back:
1.disable super slow
2.change back to UHD in the menu
3.shutter speed remains 1/100 which is a horror because I have to reenter the menu to go to synchro scan again for scrolling down from 1/100 to 1/50 taking me more than a minute , driving me mad.

As a wildlife filmer , loving to change quickly to super slow and back ,this procedure is a big issue for me.

Am I doing wrong?
Can you tell me a better way?
Best regards

Yes, it can be infinitely faster. Just turn the shutter OFF.

Push the shutter button until the shutter speed display disappears. That turns the electronic adjustable shutter off, and sets the shutter to the default speed. In 25p or 50p, the default is 1/50. When shooting Super Slow 100 fps, the default is 1/100.

Or, you can make it all happen with one button press. Get rid of the Super Slow user button and replace it with the LOAD SETUP FILE option. Then use the OTHERS menu, and save two setups on your SD card -- save a UHD setup, and then go to 1080 and turn on SUPER SLOW and then save that configuration to the SD card as a SLOW MO setup. Then, when you want to change between them, press the LOAD SETUP FILE user button, and choose which setup you want. It'll be done in about 3 seconds.

Glad to help! And I am completely jealous, I have been wanting to get down to Antarctica for years. Hope you get some great footage!

When working with this recommendations, some limitations and mistakes occur , maybe only with my entire 350 , but please try it out on other ones:

If you save the presets , lets say on card2 in slot2 , of course you have to repeat this procedure every time , when slot1 and 2 are full and both cards have to be replaced with new ones.
Your backup gets lost, when you have to replace the entire card with the presets .
Or you leave card 2 (I will do so) with presets untouched in slot 2 and make footage only with card 1.

Why is it not possible to perform this option the same way with the internal memory? Here you only can save one preset which will be overwritten when you try to add one more, so you never can come back the same easy way to your original preset.

I saved 6 presets on card2 in slot2 :

4k
4k high sense(HS)
1080p25 super slow
1080p25 super slow (HS)
1080p50 super slow
1080p50 super slow (HS)

before saving the 4k presets I established syncScan shutter speed 1/50 and put the shutter off, not displayed anymore.

The following happened:

when switching between all the 1080 presets everythig is fine,

when going back to 4k or 4K HS preset from any of the other presets with 1080 , the shutter speed of 1/50 gets lost and remains 1/100 AND the manual preset of WB 5600K is displayed in right number but the picture is blue as if like done with 3000K or so.
If I turn the camera off and on , the WB of 5600 comes back ok ,but the shutter speed of 1/50 has to be reestablished over SynchroScan , driving me mad.

Because of the issue , not being able to come back to normal shooting mode from slow motion presets without severe mistakes , my initial enthusiasm got lost completely and I do have the feeling that either many things are still in a kind of beta mode OR my 350 is not ok.

Unfortunately my experience with Panasonic service Europe is not good ; 7 weeks ago I had a problem with the lens unit of a first bought 350 and sent the Pana to Cardiff service center Europe and did not get it back till today .I think they have to import the lens unit from Japan.

So I had to buy myself a second one for my expedition trip to the Antarctica .
After my return I do think , that my first one will be back home again , forcing me to sell one of those 2 then with quite a loss of money.
This just as an information of my present fate!
Best regards

I don't know the answers for you right away, but why are you using Synchro Scan? If you just turn the shutter off, it should always be correct for your 25p, 50p and 100p footage.

I am using synchroscan to establish 1/50 shutter for Europe but because of these experiences I will accept 1/60 , much easier.

But you don't have to. If you just turn the shutter off, it will default to 1/50 speed. And in Super Slow mode, it will default to 1/100.

It would have been nice to be able to save six setup files internally since the camera does not have a separate SD slot like the PX270.

Does not work ;when going back from any of the presaved superslow presets with shutter speed 1/100 to normal UHD , the shutter speed remains 1/100 , no matter what you had before. No way to come back to 1/60 or 1/50 automatically, it always remains 1/100.

My cam seems to have a lot if issues , also the white balance is only established correctly after a turn off and on if a SD preset was changed before.
After coming back from Antarctica I will get back my repaired 350 Nr.1 so I will be able to check , if these are general issues of this type of camera or not.
Best regards from Buenos Aires, Robert

I've been using CX350, UX90, and AC90 with several HDMI switchers (BMD, Tricaster, vMix, and Slingstudio. However, I have just had an issue crop up where I cannot connect my CX350 with Slingstudio. This is after having used them together for at least a dozen projects.

I cannot connect using the wireless camera links, nor with a direct HDMI connection to the Slingstudio hub. I can still connect with UX90 and AC90.

I have tried resetting Slingstudio and resetting the menus on the CX350.

Slingstudio support has no answers and suggests a problem with the camera, but I can still connect the CX350 to other switchers.

Any thoughts? Is anyone successfully using the CS350 with Slingstudio?

So I am back from Antarctica now , my repaired camera 1 is back from Cardiff after 7 weeks and can compare both new cameras now .

ALL the issues , mentioned above , are the same , so they seem to be GENERAL problems , no user found out until so far.

Please Barry , with your emphasize, give report to Panasonic to fix these bugs with an update as soon as possible.
Especially 1/50 , established by Synchro Scan gets definitely lost when changing from 4K to SuperSlow and back to 4K , even if Shutter is OFF.

My initial enthusiasm for this camera has become colder in combination with some more experiences when working with the 350 not under studio conditions but in hard run and gun conditions on an expedition trip:

The problem to come to infinity (ring reaching farer than 95) is a big one because the autofocus is much worse than the one of Sony - not to speak about Canon - and I never could get sharp a swimming whale quick enough , not even with the area mode.
I had to do this manually , taking me much too much time as the whale in the mean time diving down and gone.
And the push infinity button for coming quickly to 95 doesn't help because is not exact enough .Even WITHIN the range of number 95 there is not an exact point of sharpness nailing an object. There still is a small range of unsharpness requiring manual correction/interaction.Not very nice.

And - as mentioned above - changing preset over SD- card (and only by this way) from SSLow back to 4k loses the manually preset white balance. (5600 is displayed but the picture is blue).Making a restart to solve this problem makes the peaking of course lost too , so this , of course , also has to be reestablished then too - for working with this camera in a wildlife - environment a no go !!
There should be an option to select peaking always being present , if required.

AND there are some more software issues on both cameras I did not have enough time to explore yet - so user bottom presets get lost for any reason (camera suddenly reestablishes factory presets , peaking suddenly gets lost and in other cases intensity of peaking goes back from strong to medium etc.)

I will sell now one of those 2 and keep the other , waiting for updates with improvements.

This camera definitely is not mature for the market , I believe because of any kind of marketing strategy.

If improvement is not happening within a reasonable amount of time , I will have to begin checking other brands , sorry for this.

Best regards , Robert

Sorry, here again:
I cannot output superslow files via HDMI on both cameras , even if system format and HDMI format over LCD OUT IS right .
No problem with normal FHD footage but no way with superslow in HD.
So I cannot watch SSL footage on my TV via the camcorder.
Could not find any information about this in the manual.
Is this ok ?
Best regards

Are you saying that you cannot see it in slow motion live while shooting in high variable frame rate or when you try to play back?

For slow motion material that will play back in slow motion you must select a standard system frequency for recording such as 29.97p and then select a variable frame rate (VFR) also noted as FPS (frames per second) such as 120fps. In playback the material will run at the system frequency no matter what VFR was selected, meaning that 120fps will run 4 times slower because they will be played out at 29.97p. There will also be no sound.

System Frequency is the playback speed, the rate at which the Timecode is set.
Variable Frame Rate is the speed at which the sensor captures information.
This is why there are two different places to set the speed of the camera. Recording v Playback.

If this does not help, please contact Panasonic Support and our engineers will assist you further. Info is available on our website.

Thanks Mitch , I can watch/replay all thumbnails perfectly on the LCD of the camera , no matter if UHD or HD or SuperslowHD.But when plugging the camera via HDMI to the TV ,all formates are displayed perfectly there , EXCEPT Superslow .

I have no problems playing back SuperSlow clips to my LG 4k TV so I suspect that it may be either a setting fault on the camera has a fault.

I suspect it is a format mismatch between your camera and the TV, meaning that your home television does not support the format the camera is playing back that particular files. This is not uncommon in consumer monitors.

Thanks Mitch ,good information that it does not seem to be an issue of the camera. But here same problem with my old panasonic plasma TV and also with my brandnew Sony Laser beamer.
I will check it.
