Panasonic VS Sony

Hey guys! I'm new around here but have been creeping for awhile and thought this was the place to go for any questions.

I'm interested in purchasing an HVX200a, mainly for webisode type work, but with a chance for other type work that would deal with deliverables and handing off footage. I had a discussion with someone who said that for a better workflow and "standard" stock footages and formats, Sony is a better way to go because it shoots in 1080. I noticed that the HVX200 shoots in 720 with the capability of 1080i/24p.

Does anyone have experience with both cameras, or advice on which device offers a better workflow? What type of work have you used them for? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
 
This has been discussed ad infinitum.

There are compelling reasons for both cameras- they are very evenly matched. The Sony's advantages are IMHO- native 1080p, slightly better low light capability (though at a cost of gamma quality), and cheaper media- especially if you substitute SD card for SxS cards via a 3rd party adapter.

The Panasonic again IMHO has better ergonomics and better picture quality, and a more developed workflow and support in post. However this comes at a cost of signifigantly higher media costs- P2 cards are more expensive and you cannot substitute them with any other media. Also readers are expensive if you go with the Panasonic brand- and if not the off-brands have spotty support.

Once you get into post- they have about equal support in most NLEs like Avid, FCP, Premiere. Hope that helps. I'd suggest a rental of each or some hands on time at a deal if you're in a larger city to make your final choice. Either is equally capable in well-trained hands.
