The model is very very H.O.T.!

I don't know how the video will look out in the wild once the camera is released!?!??!

Don't we just have to wait and see??

You guys must read Kanja better than I do. Where do you click to see actual video?
Yeah, argh, those models are hot. I'm not a Japanophile by any means, but, maybe I should get out of LA and teach English there for a while :). I'm talking about the cameras of course.

I will accept the web compression as the excuse, but it seems much worse than equivalent footage on vimeo or youtube.

Whatever. To each his own. Don't like it, don't buy it. The world will be the same. It will make no difference to any of us. Really, think about it. If it turns out good we will be having a blast. We will know pretty soon. So far so good, really.

Skip the intro. To the left of the hat ladies, the first line that shows you a link (it was a wild guess of course). Click then go forward on the right. You'll see the video screens.

I dug it. I'm 60% certain I'll be able to get one by April 24th from Japan. I've got a friend who has a friend over there and they might be able to hook me up.

Thanks for those instructions, I couldn't find it either.

Looks good, but there's some high shutter speed going on in both of those which I find unappealling. Can't wait until somebody out in the real world gets their hands on one.

High shutter NG.

Hope for the best but expect the worst. It's been a roller coaster ride ever since Red announced the Scarlet. As soon as you hear about it, your hopes burst through the ceiling, but then come the details... With Scarlet (base model) it was the 2/3", with the D90 it was Jellovision, with 5DII it was 30P.

It's like the dating scene.

If you talk about raw resolution, color, dynamic range and low light, the 5d still seems to be the best bet.
Until we get raw footage directly from the cam it is still anyone's guess how good the GH1 really is.
The lense system is one thing that will hold me back, unless the image of the GH1 is mind blowing i still think nikon or canon lenses are a better investment in the long run.

exactly.....four thirds? save it!

Nikon and or Canon line of lenses is what makes them always the choice to go to...over any other marketing gimmicks from pansonic or whomever

Resolution isnt always the final straw alot of people forget that...

Please dont get a DSLR going into it thining its a video camera first and foremost....you will be sorely disappointed....(this has been talked about so many time already)

Bottom line - if you want professional results - you need to go pro - not some sub $2k DSLR...

Thats what I like about: DON'T LIKE IT DON'T BUY IT! If you can't make your investment back don't get it. But, as always, only the really good ones will make money with the tool.

FOr once I agree with John. If it's good enough to surpass HMC150 quality, has manual controls and lens options?

Sorry. I've got two on my list and I bet they double their money in a months time as far as I'm concerned.

The lens system is personally a strong draw for me. Primarily because you can use Nikon and Canon lenses on the GH-1, not to mention Leica, Leitz, M39 screw mounts, M42, C-mounts, T-mounts, R-mounts, OM, Contax/Yashica, Pentax K, Minolta lenses, etc.

By design the micro 4/3rds system has a short flange focal distance(FFD), which makes adapters well suited and insures that you can focus-to-infinity for even the range-finder lenses. The FFD is so short you can even stack adapters. Obviously it'll all be manual, and you won't get the fancy features in the dedicated lenses, but suddenly all these lenses have a new life to them.

Thanks Steve! This is the interest of forums like this. I had dismissed the idea of adaptors because of the crop factor on regular 35mm slr lenses, but i was not aware that so many other options were possible.
Just a few more weeks and we can start to see what actually comes out of this camera.

I guess there isn't a type of adapter that will squish your 35mm lens image into the focal plane of a 3/4rd chip so we wouldn't have the crop factor? Smack me if this was discussed already and point me in the right direction.

Car30, i imagine it would be you.

Papa, actually it's only been mentioned once. some kind of focal reducer for telescopes? don't know it can actually be used with the gh1/g1 but someone can always try.

also, anyone know if it's possible this will release body only? i can't seem to find the g1 w/o the kit lens. i'd rather be able to buy this cam without the lens if possible.

it's called a x0.5 wide angle adapter, readily available but usually optically crappy. if you're looking to preserve the dof what you're looking for is a "35mm adapter" but isn't that what we're trying to avoid?

I've never seen one in the US, but in Japan the G1 body-only sells for around $500.

For the GH1 kit, the major cost is the 14-140mm lens. Its ~$840 in Japan, and its currently only kit-only at the moment. I'm assuming once its out for awhile they'll release a body-only option for around ~$800-1000 msrp. Sooner or later I'm sure the GH1 will be very affordable if the G1 is anything to go by.

Incidentally, the GH1 with the 14-140mm kit lens is on pre-order for ~$1,340 on Amazon Japan
