Panasonic S1H Announcement Tuesday, August 27th

I am sure that today B&H sells more S1H's than any other cinema camera but that does not indicate anything over time, it just means that all those pre-orders get filled today.

We will have to wait and see, perhaps in a few weeks, we see this sell for $3200 or so or there is some "special" with a free lens...

I assume pre-orders count as "sales" when they are made and deducted from the total if they're canceled.

I think many people buying a low cost Full Frame cine camera will have similar needs. Nothing special here.
It'd surely be interesting to see where S1H fits. A shooting kit is still way below FX9 price-wise and will do mostly the same things. + that 6K thing too.

... Refresh the list.
This isn't the NFL score update.

IMO, it's not a low-cost full-frame camera; it's a decently-priced full-frame camera that's worth its price tag for some people for features like 6K and 10-bit and IBIS.

Like YOU.

If this camera had Sony's AF I'd be on the LIRR right now on my way to get it.

Yeah, I am curious to see how the finished 4K image compares. FX9 wins by a mile when it comes to C-AF, but S1H is smaller and about one third of the price.

It seems to me that the S1H is actually the only lowest cost shipping full frame 6K cine camera buy a wide margin. Z CAM's E2-F6 is expected to ship later this fall will give it some competition but it will cost $1000 more than the S1H.

The FX9 which isn't expected to ship until early next year, costs nearly 3 times as much as the S1H. Obviously it's arguably a better camera in in many ways, but it's worth noting that at launch it's max resolution is limited to UHD. Sony says the FX9 won't capture 6K or even DCI 4K until it receives a future firmware update.

Obviously very few people need to capture 10-bit full frame 6K footage, but if those that do the S1H seems like a bargain.

Yea, it's all relative at this point.

It's indeed a bargain if you're mixing it with cinema cameras and 6K is a focal point (especially via full-frame).

It's a ripoff if you're only considering it for full-frame photography.

I know how happy certain cameras with certain features make me, so if people don't require Sony AF and the mount doesn't bother them then this camera appears to be the holy grail.

The S1 makes way more sense for photography. I'd be more likely to buy it for video too as it gives me most of what the S1H does for half the price.

I haven't even tried it but I keep seeing people say good things about the cameras autofocus when properly setup. I doubt its as good as Canon, but it may not be so far behind Sony (and even when I get around to testing it, I don't have Sony gear so couldn't really compare).

In either case gen 2 of this camera should be a real beast. I would think AF by then will be a big focus, and that the organic sensor with the sensor level electronic ND will be built in. I'm sure there will be other nice improvements as well (internal ProRes RAW or similar? Higher FPS at higher quality? Etc.).... but its getting to the point where I can't think of much else that I really need or want out of a system that isn't just a novelty item. AF, Internal ND. That's it.

Well, then of course the inevitable future of computational photography, but that's another rabbit hole...

You have to flip those two words around now in the 4th quarter of 2019.
