Panasonic reveals more details of AG-AF100

Oh man...why are they so married to interlaced video?

EDIT: What's strange is that it has 720/50p but not 720/60p.

I think you're reading it wrong. It's saying that it will shooting 1080i60/50. But at 720, you'll still get 60p & 50p, respectively. 720p60 is still technically 59.94, like 24p is 23.98.

Thanks NTSC!

I understand what you are saying but this is exactly what it says:

“The AG-AF100 records in 1080:59.94i/50i/29.97p/25p/23.98p or 720:29.94p/50p/29.97p/25p/23.98p with its multi HD format.”

I'm thinking that the part I bolded in yellow might have been a typo on thier part and maybe should read 720:59.94? It looks like 30p to me.

plus they removed it so we cant say its "official" but seriopusly, these are specs we already know about... show us specs we dont know about :P

but god i sstill wish they tweak the design hahaha

Yeah there's a few weird things in there.... like this "35 mm film camera lenses and prime lenses" which shows up a few times...a prime lens is just a lens with a fixed focal length, there are micro 4/3 primes, 35mm primes, cinema primes, etc.

Actually, the text on that .pdf is identical to the flyer handed out at NAB two months ago, right down to that typo. What is new is the updated photo showing buttons & switches detail and a seemingly shorter body length.

I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if there's any kind of OIS integrated into the AF100 body. At NAB, a Japanese man with a Panasonic name badge said there was not.

Nothing spectacular, its a GH1 AVCCAM with XLR inputs and SDI out.

but...
.. where is the pre-order button?

And the ability to save and exchange scene files, for instant/easy matching between multiple cameras

And, that's just what features it'll have if it inherits what the existing HMC150 and HVX/HPX170 have. Who knows what new/advanced features it'll also have?

Sorry, it's gonna be a whole lot more than a GH1 with XLR ports! :)

*and no, I don't have any "inside information" for this list, I'm just taking what they said in the brochure, plus the design of the camera, plus what they said in the press conference, plus my extensive knowledge of how they've developed cameras in the past and how the feature sets carry forward, and applying this all logically to the AF100. I would be very shocked if the AF100 didn't have each and every feature I listed here, but I obviously don't speak for the company and cannot guarantee that those features will be included.

The're not "married" to it, they're providing all the ATSC standard formats. The ATSC supports 1080/24p, 1080/30p, 1080/60i, 1080/25p, 1080/50i, and 720p at 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60. And so does the AF100. It's a digital cinema camera and also a professional video camera, so it supports all the video formats there are.

Damn those are eye-opening specs.

A personal thought. If this was ten years or fifteen years ago I woulda been like, 'damn, when I grow up I can probably shell out 6k like it was nothin. yeah, when I grow up.'

I'm thirty now. I still can't shell out 6k.

I feel robbed. I should be shellin out 6k.

I was reading barry's list and sayin, ok this is cool, but it's 6k. When I grow up I'll play in that field some day. Waitaminnit. I'm thirty.

Someone please tell me I'm still young and it's ok to be broke.

The AF100 sounds sick by the way, and indeed boasts specific features suited to delivering to several departments while on the job. It's nothing but good. Perfectly happy with 720p, lots of work ask me for interlaced delivery. I mean, they do. I have hell dealing with it but they do.

Any hoo. Please excuse me. I'm not liking thirty, in lebanon, after a money crisis. I'm scurred.

What does it mean by "Designed for stable camera work..."

Are they backhandedly admitting there could be jello or other motion artifacts?
