Panasonic Removable Lens Four Thirds HD AVCHD Camera

Great clip! Finally, somebody that can shoot straight down there. Oh, we are going to have a great time with this little camera. I read yesterday in panasonic.net that it has a feature that a sensor next to the viewfinder makes it turn on when you are looking thru it then switches to the LCD automatically when you pull away from it. I think that is cool. It also has a lot of manual and scene settings and color funtions to choose from. By the time it arrives in the USA Hunter and Kholi would have uncover a lot about it and share it with us and we will be ready to shoot some great stuff.

Zuiko Olympus 14-45 f/2.8-3.5 zoom http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-14-54m...638542&sr=1-13 Although, I could possibly go with Nikon lenses if the crop factor on the GH1 ends up not being too much. We'll have to see.

I think this is the old version of this lens. You'd probably be better off getting the new version, which supports contrast focusing making it's AF compatible with micro 4/3. It also has rounded aperture blades.

One question, does anybody know if there is a 1/48 shutter? Or what the shutter speed range is? Seems like everything else we need is in the GH1. The only other thing is to confirm what the exact crop factor is for some Nikon and Canon lenses.

According to the manual its 1/30 to 1/4000 (Page 108 in the manual)

The crop factor is 2.0x, and 1.9x for 16:9. The sensor itself is larger (~1.7x), but its not usable. There are calculations in a previous post in the thread if you want to see the math.

I don't know if it has that or not, but I'll say this: I wouldn't use it even if it did. 1/48 is asking for trouble on a CMOS camera. 1/48 causes rolling waves in the image if you're shooting under magnetic HMIs or fluos or mercury vapor or sodium vapor lights. And you don't always know what kind of lights you're shooting under.

I strongly recommend that you use 1/60th on a rolling-shutter camera in 60Hz territories, and 1/50 in 50Hz territories. Unless you know exactly what lights you're using and know for a fact that any ballasted light sources are using high-frequency electronic ballasts.

That looks great, but I wish the Japanese would post these videos on someplace other then Youtube.

Leica D Summilux 25mm/F1.4 looks quite attractive, since It'll give an equivalent of a 50mm lens on a full-frame camera. Its also one of the supported lenses that will have AF via Panasonic's adapter for stills. Still a bit pricey at around $780.

Good points. I'm hoping without the Leica name this one will be cheaper. (coming in september, I believe.)

As more info and footage rolls in, I'm getting pretty close to convinced that my HV30 & K10d are going bye bye.

Hopefully, we'll see a ton of new Olympus lenses that'll be announced this summer. It's been rumored that a 17mm f/2.8 and a 25mm F2 is in the works from Oly. I would also like to see a Panasonic "HD" fast-prime lens, that can do all the video features, be released. While the 14-140mm HD is a jack of all trades, its an ace of none.

Personally, waiting to see Oly's offerings before I jump in, but I've been keeping an eye out on eBay for nice old lenses like Voigtländers, Canon FDs, and old Leicas. I have my eye out on the Voigtländer NOKTON 35mm F/1.2 and Voigtländer ULTRON 28mm F2. Also, interested in the Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 as a cheap alternative.

Not super sharp but for Vimeo and 17Mbps this is sharper than I though it would be!

Wow, vimeo sure beat that to crud. Here's what the original looks like, straight off the AVCHD source:

Lots, lots nicer, lots sharper! If you guys are only seeing this clip through vimeo, suffice it to say you're not seeing 1/10th of what this little camera can actually do.

Very interesting. OK, first there's the Olympus Zuiko 50-200mm. How is this lens able to be mounted on the GH-1? Which adapter would you use - the Panasonic adapter? And with such a lens you lose all auto functions, right?

Second lens is the Olympus Zuiko 50mm Macro. But again, the focus and aperture are all manual, yes?

Is this the third lens he used? Same question about adapter & auto/manual control.

I'm still on the fence (5D vs. GH-1), but definitely leaning towards the GH-1.

Yes, with that adapter 43rd lenses will work with u43rds system, but with the adapter not all lenses lose AF, and Oly and Panasonic have been steadily releasing updates for their lenses.

Here is a list of compatibility (and which lens retain AF):

Also, only "HD" lenses will autofocus in video, so far there is only one; the new 14-140mm. We should start seeing more and more lenses support AF via adapter as Oly releases their camera.

The kit lens with the GH1 Panasonic says was developed for the video mode. With the OIS and whatever else it should be good. Maybe a bit slow for the taste of many around here, but pretty good nonetheless.

I don' know but I like this:
