GH5 panasonic releases g85 replacement=g95

Preinstalled V-Log L is cool of them. Panasonic does so many things well and then they went ahead and made the S1 with a L-mount...shaking my head.

It would have been nice if it also had 60p, but maybe that's the trade-off.

DLD, cartel's decision?

This should make the YouTube vloggers happy. 4K with LOG, 5-axis IBIS, flip-out screen, mic and headphone jacks, etc... Sure it's 8-bit, but then pretty much all it's competition is also 8-bit too. ( GH5, GH5s, S1 are the hybrid exceptions )

60p requires more processing power, and this is a mid-range camera. ( Fujifilm is the only one giving 10-bit away for peanuts )

As for the L-mount, what's a better mount for video use ? Many of the Canon EF lenses have noisy focusing motors, and the supply will eventually dry up when Canon fully embraces mirrorless FF cameras.

Nothing to do with processing power and everything to do with holding back features (which the second part of your statement may imply).

Practically the same body for the same price (at least now) with 4K/60p: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod..._dc_g9kbody_lumix_dc_g9_mirrorless_micro.html

EF would have been most logical if they wanted to make more money. Lots of quiet AF lenses.

And probably more coming: https://www.canonrumors.com/patent-lots-of-small-light-and-fast-ef-prime-lenses/

And even if they aren't, the EF mount/lenses would take many years to finally dry up.

On specs, yes. In pretty much any other industry, a new product would try to beat its immediate competitors on performance. (take Veloster N, as an example). And, with Panasonic having the same old problems with the DFD, it can't even fully match up against Canon's latest.

On the mount, however, Panasonic had no other choice, as being held a hostage to Canon on the EF was not prudent. They needed to strike on their own there, Leica has been a long time partner and Sigma was given a ride to the party as well.

I don't think the G95 is using the same hardware as the G9. To me the G9 appears to be a castrated GH5, with no 10-bit and a 30 minute recording limit in place.

Where the G95 appears physically identical to the G85, with some minor control differences.

Canon's line of ST EF lenses are quiet, but I've always found the regular EF lenses pretty noisy, especially when using C-AF.

It doesn't matter what they are called or what they are meant to be or have; the bottom line is it's doable.

You'll see the same model, 2-3 versions later, with 4K/120p within 3 years.

And you have to use some of the better EF lenses for quieter AF. The motor noise is never an issue anyway with certain work.

8-bit with V-Log is pretty much useless.

I would stay away from V-Log anyway (except obviously for the pro models) as I believe that the photography division that makes the DSLRs seems to be clueless about proper video color management. Instead I would recommend HLG which seems to be somewhat better.
