Panasonic on imac

I want to buy an imac instead of a mac pro. But in my mac pro i have a kona card to a panasonic color correction monitor. Is there a way to get this probably mini-dvi connection on imac to a component cable to simulate a kona card. To be simpler, can I connect color correction monitor to an imac?

Thanks

Nope. The only option you'd have with the iMac is the Matrox MXO, that connects via DVI. But that has been tested on the latest model of the iMac and it doesn't work. Unsure why, but we tried pretty much everything.

If you want to be able to output to an external monitor for professional color correction, you need a MacPro or a 17" MacBookPro with an Express34 slot.

thanks for this.
I indeed hence the pro, but the imac is so pro lately if take the speed in considaration.

It's not really the speed that's the issue- it's multiple cores and the gigantic box with expansion slots that make all the difference. With the iMac sure they have fast processing, but very limited expandability. They are the opposite of what you want if you want to do heavy-duty post on your Mac.

#1 check out the modified imac from macsales.com, comes with a esata port, pretty useful, a lot of the times in video editing, hard drives speeds and bandwidth are a huge factor in performance

#2, AJA IO/HD should solve a lot of your monitoring problems. Plugs into FW 800, will give you sdi to the panasonic monitor you want for grading and HD reference.

i'm agreeing on the previous 2 posts, the versatility of a actual mac pro tower, even at quad core tower will out perform the imac in many ways. extra ports, throughput, the works.

I love MOTU for audio, but their video gear kinda sucks and is not well supported in FCP. Consider yourself warned on that one.

WARNING: The IOHD does NOT work with Color in HD. Firewire is the issue.

The eSATA hack that is offered on the iMac helps, but still can't be considered Pro if you want to be able to view on a production monitor and color correct. Unless that MOTU works..even then, you are stretching it.
