"panasonic MASTER" tape-bad lubrication?

Re: "panasonic MASTER" tape-bad lubricat

Mitch and I have been using the MQ tapes on our DVX100's from day one. To me it's a no-brainer with regard to which tape to use. Most camera manufactures use THEIR tapes to bias the heads. The DVX camera & the MQ tapes are a PERFECT marriage. In the "old" days, I used to use nothing but FUJI tapes for my analog cameras. I wouldn't put a FUJI tape into my DVX100's if they gave them to me FREE!!!!

This site does so much to widen ownership of the DVX , a Panasonic ENGINEER should answer things like this DIRECTLY - rather than us all stumbling around on so many overheard rumours and subjective opinions.

The fact is , only someone from a tape/videohead testing lab knows the real answer to this - we're left trying to decipher the truth from the marketing blurb. Come on Panny - hows about helping dismiss some rumours ? ! AND whilst on my soapbox , some technical specifications on the tape carton would be nice: quantifiyable test measurements , and clear specific statement of prohibition/suitability for various scenarios !! - something like

" we do not recommend the mixing of the following types of mDV tapes . . . . . " ,
along with
" DVM63PQ and DVM63MQ tapes ( ? ) are suitable for interchangeable use within the same camera/deck "
, and
" head cleaning is essential between using type A and type B tapes as listed below . . ."
, and
"the following tapes are all compatible with any other tape within the same listed group, and can be mixed in use with no specific head cleaning issues. "

. . . OR WHATEVER !!!! - HELP US PANASONIC !! you're my only hope ! Paul.

True - but you also have the benefit of people who have been out there (and some of us are more out there than others :o) using the camera and associated products for close to 1 1/2 yrs now. So for instance, I had clogged heads within 2 hours on a brand new DVX 100 using Sony Premium MiniDV tapes. In a year (50+ hours) of using MQ tapes, I haven't had as much as one dropout - even on tapes used 2-3 times. So experience is helpful too I think. ::)

Re: "panasonic MASTER" tape-bad lubricat

Sorry Peter - your reply seems to suggest that I don't value the experience of the DVXuser community - This is NOT the case ! - This site is ALL EXPERIENCE - what else can we offer ? Of course we "have the benefit of people who have been out there " - I'm 'out there' myself ! but we all have different experiences and many of us have been given conflicting advice from 'salesmen' and the like. Sorry if I came across otherwise !! :-[

What I tried to say was that someone from the engineering side of Panasonic could end all this confusion with a definitive statement. I also feel that , as this is such a well run site with most of the participants being Panasonic cutomers (to the tune of several thousand pounds/dollars !) I think Panny could do us the courtesy of an official reply .

As an example of conflicting experience (this time in keeping tape in/out ) from another post :-

Until buying my PAL DVX last month, nearly all my shooting was done on domestic Canon miniDV and Sony Digital8 cameras - used cheap Panasonic "Linear Plus" tapes in the mDV Canon and Sony HMPs for D8 - hardly ever took the tapes out until full ( typically they would be in the camera for a week or more ) - and NEVER had a single pixel drop out - NEVER ! - NOT ONE !! - and that's in 57 Panasonic "LinearPlus" , 8 JVC DVM60ME's (the cheapest) , and 8 sony Premium for the miniDV's - Then for the Digital8 cameras 106 sonyHMPs/D8's , 7 Fuji P5's , 14 TDK MP60's and 6 JVC HMP90's ( Just counted ! - sad life !! ). ( most tapes used 3-6 times ! - poor voluntary worker ! )
Now with my DVX I ONLY use Panasonic "professional" 63PQ tapes and in the first month have had two single frame multi pixel dropouts and one single block dropout ( on three different tapes ) - I thought having spent so much on this wonderful piece of kit and Pro tapes that I would be safe from dropouts. - is it just that I've been lucky before ? surely not ? ! What's going on ?

--- How's that for sticking to the same brand !!! ? ;D
- - Not saying I was right - I now know ( thanks to the experience of DVXusers ) that I should remove tapes AND stick to one brand/type - but not having had a problem before I didn't even think about this ! - Has anyone else innocently 'diced with death' like this and got away with it ? !
- Anyway - didn't mean to offend anyone ! please excuse me , I'm getting on a bit too!!
- ps - just checked , had DVX 9 weeks and have 57 hours on it.
