GH3 Panasonic Lumix LEICA NOCTICORON 42.5mm F1.2 Lens Shipping FEB 28 Texas Media Systems

I thought I was going to sell my Olympus 45mm (my favorite lens) when this came out. I was wrong. I can't afford that. Want to ship me one for free?

I can't imagine selling the Oly 45mm for any reason. I use it on the BM cameras where it functions as a 135mm and it captures images as pretty as either the Nikon or Canon 85mm behemoths (also shoot both). Not to rain on any parade as far as new sales, but a Metabones speed booster makes the Olympus 45mm into that much more of an amazing lens for a few hundred dollars.

I do value the apparent construction of the new Noc, and the OIS. But for the kind of work I use the similar Oly for, it's always on a tripod.

I hope Panasonic makes the aperture ring the standard

It would be nice if all new lenses had it, but it really does need to be next to the lens mount, and reversed.

The standard is the iris ring closest to the mount, with counter-clockwise opening the iris, the zoom ring (for such lenses) in the middle, and the focus ring farthest from the mount. It's messed up when companies make lenses that don't follow that ring arrangement, or when clockwise opens the iris. (That's just bassackwards.)

That's only the standard with CaNikon. All my Leica lenses open clockwise, as do my Voigtlanders. Some Voigtlanders, some Leica lenses, and some Olympus lenses have the iris ring out there. Nikon and Canon even focus in different directions.

So yeah... there is no "standard."
