GH2 Panasonic/Leica 25mm f/1.4 = Anyone with this lens, looking for a review?

I just got it recently and have only started to put it through it's paces. Very sharp even wide open, excellent inherent contrast, and very comfortable working perspective. 25mm gives a natural "normal" field of view, pretty much with the same spatial relationships we see with our eyes.

I've been recovering from a severe impact to the left side of my face close to the eye socket, had emergency eye surgery, and a very bad sinus problem a few weeks later so I haven't had a chance to do more than rudimentary tests and a few cursory video clips. But this lens is going to be one of my favorites.

I have the Lumix 14 and 20mm "pancakes" and the 45mm Oly f1.8 also. Preliminary tests indicate this is going to be a "workhorse" lens for me, I consider it worth every penny it cost. I've got 2 GH2 bodies and I plan to keep the 25mm on one of them most of the time.

I'm keeping the Lumix 20 also. For those times when I want to look a bit less conspicuous.

I suggest some ND filters to keep in your bag. This lens has a 46mm filter thread (as do the Lumix 14 and 20) but I also have 2 lenses with 52mm filter thread, the 14-42mm "kit" lens and the Lumix 45-200 zoom. So I've got a 46-52mm stepup ring and a 52mm Lumix lens cap for each of the 46mm thread lenses and my ND filters are Tiffens in 52mm. 0.6ND, 0.9ND, and 1.2ND for two stop reduction, three stops, and 4 stops respectively. I can use them on all my lenses (the Oly 45mm requires a 37-52mm stepup ring for this set of filters).

I had started to go with Polaroid variable ND but have discontinued their use after seeing a disturbing number of complaints of internal reflections when used with m4/3rds lenses. The variable ND's are actually two "panes" of glass and introduce FOUR additional potentially reflective surfaces.

Hope this info helps.

The Panasonic 25mm is a wonderful lens. It renders very nice images and the 1.4 is very useful. My only concern with it is when shooting video. If it's on a tripod then you're fine. However, there is no IS in the lens and hand holding can prove to be an issue. But for photos, it's really good.

Thanks for the help, but yeah I shoot mostly on a tripod or small cage rig when I want hand held so I know how to operate. Heck I can shoot handheld on a 85mm lens and still do pretty good, but yeah thanks for the help. Unless there is another lens within this price range it looks like this might be the main lens I will use with this camera.

Do a search on Vimeo for "Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4" and you'll see a bunch of examples of this lens on a GH2.
