Panasonic Broadcast announced today it has launched www.defperception.com, a blog to inform and educate video professionals on the new AG-HVX200 HD/SD DVCPRO P2 camcorder and on high definition technology topics in general.

The blog, featuring “Tosh Bilowski” as the company’s human voice, provides Panasonic a forum to express its views and share its opinions on new technologies, products, features, and activities, as well as answer questions in a meaningful way.

“This web log will serve as a centralized source for accurate information on the AG-HVX200, DVCPRO HD, P2, and on a host of technology subjects, and Tosh allows us to put a human face and personality to it,” said Jim Wickizer, National Manager, Marketing Services, Panasonic Broadcast. “In the past, this type of information has typically been presented in a far-less-interesting manner. The on-line journal’s goal is to be helpful and relevant to video professionals and provide them with a useful reference.”

What the hell...? Lol...

I just read the guy's "About Me" page and there's a whole bio about him, his family, his childhood... even the names of his mom and dad and what they did. Is this thing just completely fabricated, or did they just pick some emo-looking film student out of a hat to give some "human" qualities to their cold, gray (okay, make that bluish-gray) product?

Either way, I guess it's kinda interesting... but it definitely doesn't convey anything we didn't know before.

What the hell is exactly my thought...

I find it hard to believe this site was launched by Panasonic. I'm sure Jan could confirm. Good luck, Tosh.

It is confirmed, Chris Hurd has posted a press release about it from Panasonic. And you can see in the headline banner it says "brought to you by Panasonic", and at the bottom it says (C) 2005 Panasonic.

But I thought www.ag-hvx200.com was gonna function the same way? So that's not panasonic then?
Interesting. Don't know whose site that is. Panasonic sites have a copyright message on them, and I don't see one on that site, so I don't think that's an official Panasonic site.

Maybe they should just send the official information here first...plenty of "human faces" here.
Yeah, but the thing is -- this isn't a Panasonic portal. Jarred doesn't have to allow anything here he doesn't want, and Panasonic doesn't give him a dime to run this site, so they don't have any say in what goes on here (as Jarred's famous early diatribes against Panasonic Canada illustrate!) It's my understanding that the defperception site is an official Panasonic site so they have direct control over the message, and it's a moderated site so the comments that get posted are also subject to approval by Panasonic.

I'm sure Panasonic views DVXUser as a great ally, but it's not a manufacturer-controlled outlet. We'll probably still get all the news just as quickly, and yes there are a lot of faces here -- but there's also often confusion (i.e., people are STILL asking whether the HVX records 1080p or if it's 1080i-only). On the Panasonic site, you can pretty much rest assured that if you read it there, it's official and confirmed. We strive for such accuracy here, but rumors can get started and run quite a ways before we can get official confirmation and settle the questions. Things won't be that way over on that defperception site.

inserting foot in mouth...

I just find the site to be so generic. Although, I agree with Barry that rumors and misinformation can really clog up a site (I'm guilty as well). I actually prefer an open forum like this that isn't censored.
They need to spice that site up a little. Throw us a bone, Panasonic. Give us some tasty snippets of what's to come.

It was actually meant more tongue and cheek, but I think I'd rather have lots of rumors and bit less accuracy than the fake, presidential speak. I mean half the fun, for me, of coming to this site is to see the creativity that comes from the speculation. I mean in reality I can get the wrong information up until the day it's available and I'm still going to make my decision on that specific day with the final "official" information.

best,

J.

PS- Maybe Panasonic would be well served to become a sponsor :)

It seems like someone discovered the origin of the site, and to avoid bad press, they announced it as official...
Anyway, its good they came clean with this. Now lets see if the blog is going to be updated regularly or not, seing that it certainly will not be as influencial as it was when considered to be "genuine"...

Facts will speak more than propaganda. I really like my DVX, and the HVX is my priority HD cam. I'll probably be first in lineto purchase it around these parts, but I'll still judge it for the overall results it says it delivers, pure and simple. If Panasonic delivers a DVX quality product in HD, than that's all it needs to succeed.

1080p?!! Really?! And what are these P2 cards?:evil::evil:

JUST KIDDING (I hear the grills already being fired up to broil me)!!!!

Ahahahahahahahah! That blog is soooo blatantly weakly disguised marketing-speak. Can people in marketing departments not hear what they're writing? It just sounds forced. I think it's especially funny when - whilst they are trying so hard to sound casual - they insert loads of statistics about the products features, or relate "stories" that are so obviously contrived to make a point.

It doesn't seem natural or conversational. At best it's someone fluffing out press-releases.
