GH5 Panasonic GH5s vs Alexa Mini

What I'd really like to see is some matching tests. Does the GH5s make sense as a B cam outside of the Panasonic range?

Once again proves the point that the camera no longer matters

You're still thinking in the wrong terms. When you have control over scene, lighting, and action, the camera may well play much less of a role.

But when you don't have control over those things, when you have 1 or 2 seconds to frame the shot, expose the scene, focus the subject and begin recording, or you lose that shot forever, the camera can make a big difference.

But then, your not doing narrative works. This is a hard truth for wedding, docs, sports and other event based media creation as you are only there to capture things as they unfold. This is why I hate weddings! I only do it for the money. Limited creative control because anything else gets in the way of the event.

The GH5s is an incredible camera especially for the price. Very happy with mine.

I always find these sorts of tests a limited and sometimes even a little silly. Great from a scientific/engineering model, but the holistic impression of a recorded piece for placing camera/image rendition matters much more in regards to what sort of look a camera generates.

The entire point is it doesn’t matter. Cinematic is more about the effort you put into what you create and the cameras no longer get in the way. That’s kind of the point of these tests. Yes they are silly but only in how they point out how silly we all are for nitpicking over different cameras.

Oh I am? What terms should I be thinking in? What exactly is your point or do you even have a point to make? The GH5 excels in the exact kind of shooting you just described. At least myself and many others use it that way. If you were never able to make good use of it that’s your own problem.

My point was to say that the differences are bigger than what is seen here via holistic impression. These tests don’t demonstrate that.

Regardless, I agree that it’s dramatically less important than ever.

I've had certain situations where a higher dynamic range camera would have really helped me capture a better image. But all in all the GH5s is outstanding.
