GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

Thanks for posting this. While there are many reasons to upgrade to a GH5, the more video that I see, the less in a hurry I am to give up my GH4. Don't get me wrong, the GH5 is a terrific camera and I will be getting one at some point. But in due time, probably after the summer and 6K mode upgrade.
Interesting. I started out thinking I would wait, but the more I saw, especially the improved color, I realized I wanted it in my hands as soon as possible.

Something is not right with that video. I know the GH4 and why are the bushes a blurry blob at ISO400? The GH4 is not that clean at ISO6400. There is so much we do not know about how these were shot. Plus while the GH5 may have improved color it isn't going to be that much of a difference. The color between those two cameras is about as off as anybody could ever get. I would not use this video to judge the camera at all.

Thank you for saying that! I was thinking...have I been doing something wrong for years now? The GH4 isn't that clean at even 1600.

After experimenting with the RAW files out of the GH5 (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/panasonic-gh5/panasonic-gh5A7.HTM) I definitely want a switch for turning off any processing like noise reduction (at least luma) and sharpening!
The results speak for themself. Video would look amazing until ISO 1600 with incredible detail and very fine grain. Even better than any Blackmagic URSA 4K footage (thanks to way better dynamic range and high ISO capabilities)

The samples were processed using RAW Therapee (AMAZE Debayering, Chroma noise reduction starting from ISO 1600 and bicubic scaling to 4096px (DCI) width) to emulate the internal downsampling.
Link to samples: DROPBOX

Take a look at them using a proper image viewer like faststone.

In the Q/A videos I posted above it was confirmed that detail off is not available. Also turning off temporal noise reduction is not an option, confirmed here.

Sean Robinson states that the camera has been in the hands of accomplished ASCs and they have no had issues with either options being on. Granted they have quite a bit more resources than we might as well as lighting since it wouldn't be event shooting, but still they seem to think these won't be problematic.

With everything that I've seen I'm more concerned about other factors that can't be addressed until I get to use one on an event. Looks like a solid camera from this side so far though.

Right! It is probably wise to rely primarily on the settings the engineers of the in camera noise reduction came up with.
A too noisy source will make it harder for the encoder to make a good image within the given bit rate. Also noise reduction in the pre-encoding stage (pre-debayered, not chroma subsampled, not compressed) will always be more efficient than after compression.

I rarely if ever let an engineer decide creatively what is best for me.

No offense to engineers. I worked with them all the time when I worked for manufacturing companies and did the video and 3D animation marketing. Great people and fun to drink and work with (not at the same time, most of the time) but they are not film makers or designers in any way shape or form.

I'm not entirely sure why we are considering shooting at ISO6400 or ISO12800 as some sort of new norm. Those are use at your own risk levels of ISO and really meant to be used in a pinch.

I'm not sure what company this is but they seem to be putting out a lot of content on the GH5. I do wish they would include some vital settings but it does give us a glimpse of high ISO footage with denoising. It appears a setting wasn't correctly defined for 3200 ISO but others show NeatVideo doing quite well on shots up to 12,800 ISO. Not an area I like to shoot but it is not uncommon for my work. It is nice to see the image is usable at such ISOs, granted this is acceptable for what I do but maybe not everyone. It will be interesting to see how it performs in practice perhaps I will get a second and go to a full 4K workflow--time will tell I suppose. I'm intrigued to say the least.

*Video already posted--sorry! Kept the URL in.

I agree about the improved color. Having two card slots and the full size HDMI port is good. But to go along with the GH4, I have a JVC LS300 with super35 sensor that gives me those things and more (and only cost me $2,500 on sale, with a Rokinon lens). If a need comes up for 10bit 422, then I'll get the GH5 sooner.

Great video testing out autofocus features. Can someone confirm that these features work on all panny M4/3 lenses? One of the comments on this video is that it only works on NEW lumix lenses. That would seem odd. I have the Leica 42.5 F1.2 and I'd love to take advantage of this with that lens!

I like being able to set focus points. Just out of curiosity, I wonder what will happen if you zoom on a slow focus.
