GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

Yes it was direct email from BH too this guy that had pre ordered it as soon as it came out.
I ordered it a few days later but i dont think that will matter they will know how much people will want to buy them so Im guessin they will be shipping out alot.

specially since ive seen alot more random videos on youtube unboxing ect.

I can only hope!
I wonder when the lenses will be released then? i really want the new 12-35.

For those of you needing more than what the GH5 has to offer in dynamic range, my Sony F65 kit is for sale as I'm retiring from shooting professionally. Along with my Mercedes Sprinter van full of all the grip gear and goodies needed to control lighting ratios and the dynamic range of a scene. It would be a great opportunity for someone to take the next step in their career. Details to follow.

Congrats!

Have coveted both your F65, & Grip Truck, but most my gigs involve air travel with minimal cases, often just carry-on, & possibly a checked tripod tube.

Congrats on retiring! So you going to refurb some Ferrari's in your spare time? :-D

Well I will still work as long as I can. Just not going to shoulder beast cams any longer.

I'll be doing mostly sound design and voiceover & narration work as long as my voice holds out. So no real heavy lifting. Got to looking through the years, and I have voiced 68,842 voiceover sessions, not including the 4 sessions I have scheduled today.

Erik, I think I'm all done restoring Ferrari's.
My plan is to sell the majority of my gear, and purchase a 911 turbo once we sell our current house, as I just can't have a nice car with my current neighbors. That, and the fact that I just don't need to keep up with a 130 year old Victorian and 5,000 square feet. :cheesy: time to downsize!

B&H still says, "End of Mar 2017". They are very good at updating the availability of their products, so I would check there daily for any meaningful status update.

Just to put this to rest immediately I called B&H and talked to the photo department and their exact date is March 28th with zero indication that the camera would have any availability, even in limited supply or for the very first wave of pre-orders, anytime before that. He also checked to confirm this with others.

And like I said, in my experience the ship date is usually more optimistic. I'd anticipate having the camera be a little late rather than grossly early, especially given how many small quirks there are still left to work out in the GH5 pre-release firmware still, as reported by testers.

Patience, grasshopper.

On another positive for the GH5 note I do want to indicate what a massive change in shooting style and workflow I anticipate the GH5 to be. Obviously everyone has different setups, so this with larger studio rigs and matte boxes, etc may not be as affected but IBIS completely changes the handheld/quasi stabilized game in terms of achieving professional looking image stability results with minimal gear. Internal recording opens doors for ultra HQ post work while being super low key rig setup on location, perfect for quickly moving and working, as well as operating gimbals. Programmed AF allows for some truly "wow" factor shots with no assistant and no large follow focus. I could go on and on, but the content acquisition options and workflow benefits this camera offers has me drooling...

What is currently the BEST lens setup to use to shoot Anamorphic on M43? Not the SLR magic adapter or any other fake anamorphic adapter, but actual native anamorphic glass? I know SLR magic makes a lens set specifically for MFT mount - but have heard mixed things on the quality of those. Is it possible to use real anamorphic glass on GH series with a basic sort of mount adaptor? And can these types of lenses generally be rented?

A Reddit user in New Zealand has his hands on a pre-production GH5, and was able to test with the SpeedBooster XL (Canon).

Physically, it does fit the GH5. Electronically, it is not compatible. APC-size lenses do vignette same as they did in 1080P on the GH4.

I am not a mod but I would love to see this as a new thread. I think the implementation and shooting technique threads will be longer lived then this initial impression of the GH5 thread.

I rented the SLR Magic Anamorphot-Cine 2x's. This is the most straightforward route to shooting anamorphic on the GH-line, and the one Panasonic uses for demos. They work as advertised. How they look is so subjective that I won't comment on that other than to say I found them generally pleasing, and comparable in PQ to my cheap Rokinon cine's.

You could also rent PL mount anamorphics and use a mechanical adapter, but you'd have to deal with the crop factor. The dual-focus adapters and hacks are too fiddly for me to trust on any real production.

Kind of surprised Veydra hasn't made an m43 anamorphic line of lenses yet, I guess they think the demand will not be high enough to enable the development and would therefore cost too much for each unit.

And since SLRmagic hasn't brought out a complete line of cinema anamorphs, you can kind of guess about the market for selling them. Same goes for Samyang. Maybe the GH5 will drive more users to want to own real integrated anamorphic lenses.

Whats your budget and what type look are you after?

Zeiss Master Anamorphic lenses and a HotRod PL mount.

Hey if we could afford those we would be on an Alexea, so what about something within the stretch budget of GH shooters. People don't seem to like the SLR Magic set, which is limited anyway. So what works affordable, or even within the realm of practical matching with a GH project?

Veydra started and then stopped because they learned that what they were doing wasn't going to work with the GH5. I guess they weren't covering the entire sensor.
