GH3 Panasonic GH4

Why is the 10-bit 4:2:2 rumor not getting as much attention? That is a huge improvement, enough to make me buy a camera on its own. I'd rather shoot 10-bit SD than 8-bit 4K...

Yes.

And drawing up the whishlist for the mighty AGAFGH4 Easter-bunny Phantom-Cam and knowing that Panasonic never ever will forget (again) to bring out a camera with focus peaking ......... just one small thingie here: Pleases, Panasonic, remember that people hop on planes and go places, from 50 Hz countries to 60 Hz ones - or vice versa. Okay? Thank you for listening.

I second that! I think they may keep the cameras regional because of some tax nonsense. An easy solution would be to make a downloadable firmware update. That way you can buy the cameras wherever and just use the firmware that has your specific NTSC/PAL needs. Gives our beloved hackers a chance to get inside that codec as well

People's expectations don't always derive from current reality. Whether realistic or not, people are expecting 10-bit or better to be the standard in the near future. Blackmagic has planted such expectations.

Because of one camera? Blackmagic is also a different type of beast. I'm not sure if they will shake things up enough for certain specs to be considered the norm. Still plenty of professional level video cameras that are not 10bit 4:2:2. Let's not confuse wishing thinking with industry norms.

Because honestly I would rather see 4:4:4. 4:2:2 is so 2001 and part of that old school thinking of video broadcast formats. Even though a single sensor can't really do true 4:4:4 I would still like to see it happen.

As much as I believe our beloved EU-bureaucRATS can come up with any tax-related silliness any time .... AG-AF is 50/60 Hz switchable, a real world-cam. And even if there would be a tax on it they still should do it for a pro-model.

And if they would find a compromise between DSLR-form factor and a bonsai-Aaton "cat on shoulder"-thing, I would light a candle in their praise. Had the strange idea, they could stick the xlr-box and extra akku and whatever into a separate thing that would figure also as shoulder pad. Is such a thing doable?

10 or 12 bit no, I would sooner see (and I will keep harping on it) in camera from the raw before the encoding to 8 bit; shadow and highlight recovery, levels and gamma, and curves.

Raw and 4:4:4 is not the end all be all. Panasonic has stated repeated they are targeting the "broadcast" market. That's a pretty broad term, but generally (at least to me) that tends to mean TV stations, cable networks, and local production houses producing local spots. That's what almost all the rest of their "Pro" cameras are aimed at. If the purported rumors are true (and that's a big "if"), Panasonic would be nuts to incorporate Raw or 4:4:4. Maybe out of the add on SDI box (it is rumored to include 3G-SDI), but you are never in a million years going to shoot Deadliest Catch, news promos, or local car commercials in Raw or 4:4:4. It makes absolutely no financial sense to do so... and that tends to be the video market Panasonic is catering to. 4:2:2 might be so 2001, but so what? It's still used today for a reason. It's the law of diminishing returns, and for a very wide swath of Panasonic's customer base the benefits wouldn't outweigh the infrastructure or time costs.

Really?!!!!!!

Now people need 444 from a GH4 style camera?

If you need 444 a GH4 style camera is not for you. Seriously, look at the right tool for the job.

Ridiculous!
