Panasonic GH3 Debut Viideo

The codec is not why the image is soft or aliased. Why are people constantly bashing the codec for the inability to shoot well?

I agree, it is the whole package. For most cameras, you can't just blame the codec or the censor, or the... it is the whole package that has to work together.

Put AVC-Ulta into a HVX200 & you're not going to really see any more than what we got with DVCProHD, even though AVC-Ultra is a better codec, because the chips on the HVX200 are limited in what they could deliver.

A new video:

Still some aliasing: 00:37 (roof), 00:47 (roof), 1:12 (brick chimney), 1:14 (pullover). Seems dynamic range improved a tiny bit compared to the GH2.

90% of all digital cameras are going to do that. Especially the ones that are photo cameras first video cameras second. @:47 roof, that is just black verticals against blown out whites, very common. I think the GH3 looks great. Everything about it from body design to image is looking promising.

The GH1 was already light years ahead of everybody in terms of aliasing and moire. If it is only slightly better on the GH3 that is still awesome considering how good it was already.

Looks promising. Any word on whether they will offer a body/lens package with this one? The Lumix 12-35 would be a wonderful lens to pair with this camera.

Panasonic is offering the GH3 body only, or packaged with either the 12-35, or 14-140.

Wish the had a package deal on the 35-100 as lots of us already own the other lenses.

Plus there is no budget lens package for those new users. I already have two 14-42 lenses so I don't need a third but I could see new users put off a little by this.

That's purposeful to drive beginners towards their more beginner-budgeted G5 line. Throwing a ~$100 kit lens on a $1300 camera doesn't seem like much of a kit deal.

Didn't remeber exact but I understood november 12 or 20.

It is common for Panasonic to release new products in November, but I've seen no official announcement to confirm this.

Neither have I seen anything official regarding the suggested retail price. So far, I've heard people quote a MSRP here in the USA from as low as $1,300 to as high as $1,700

It is disappointing that this information is not yet available. At least from any official Panasonic source.
