Panasonic fz300

If the FZ300 crop is the same as the FZ1000 then it would be 37-888 eqiv with the 24x zoom or 33.33-800 in 4K UHD mode.

its indeed an interesting camera, a lot of folks love the fz200, so if the video off of this compares well enough to the fz1000, it may become my new vacation cam!

If thats correct(27 - 648mm in 35mm equiv. in 4K video recording) its a shame then only 56mm more reach in 4K video mode than the FZ1000,it would not be worth it for me.

Yes, but 10mm wider on the wide end, that's a significant difference for landscapes

The FZ300/FZ330 is a 1/2.3 inch sensor, about 28 square mm. The FZ1000 is a 1" sensor., about 116 square mm, or 4x the area. So for low light and stills especially the FZ1000 should be better overall. Although the FZ1000 does crop into the sensor in 4K mode.

I bought an "open box" FZ1000 for about $640 a couple of months ago. The new FZ300 retails for $595. Street price is about the same if you can find the FZ1000 on sale.

Now, we would have to compare the features and output of the two going down the list to really decide. But on the surface, the FZ1000 looks a bit better because of the sensor. Sort of like the Sony AX33 versus AX100.

that's a given...but we used to think 1/2 sensors were big ...on video cameras...however the fz300 has a wider lens in 4k, a constant f2.8 lens, weather sealed , 2 speed pz , and it's alot smaller . It doesn't have 1080/120p however. And about the cheapest I see the fz1000 is 750 ...from a reputable dealer. I don't know where you saw it for 600 on sale...but you should have bought 2 ! The difference taken into account, if I was going to buy a 1" sensor camera now, I'd rather go sony anyway. Let's wait to see how the videos shake out. Reminds me of reds 3k for 3 grand. Now it's 4k for 600 , lens included. Pretty amazing.

FZ300 has Backside Illumination. FZ1000 does not. This difference will go a long way in matching the ISO.

PS. Sony is not likely to sell the 1" BSI sensor for FZ1000 because it would then go head-to-head vs. RX10 MKII.
