Does anyone here intend to buy it? I know there is no 24p, nor interchangeable lens, but price is good!

I was seriously considering this, more for its slow motion features than for 4K.

But, I've learned that when shooting at 1080p120fps, once you press Record the focus, exposure, zoom, etc. is all locked in for the duration of the clip. That doesn't suit my needs.

Really...? That sucks! I could work with locked exposure and zoom...but focus??? Has the camera been released already? If you see the specs and the price...seems like a great deal...so there must be a catch somewhere right?

I found this info in the Advanced Features Manual on the Pana. website. The FZ200 had these same limitations, although it was 120fps@720, not 1080p like the FZ1000. Here's the link, but it's very slow downloading - I had to stop and reload a couple of times to bring it up:

http://service.us.panasonic.com/opermanpdf/DMCFZ1000_ADV.pdf

Go to page 119...they call the feature High Speed Video. Here's the actual text pasted in from the manual - it's under the notes about High Speed Video recording...

• Audio is not recorded.

  • You can continuously record a motion picture up to 7 minutes and 29 seconds or the file size of
4 GB. (This means you can record a motion picture equivalent to up to 29 minutes and
    56 seconds in playback time.)
  • The focus, zoom, exposure and White Balance is fixed to the value at the beginning of the
    recording motion picture.
  • Under fluorescent lighting, flicker or horizontal bars may be seen.

Thank you for the information! Im just wishing those limitations are only for the AUTO mode! I mean...if you put the lens to MANUAL focus ( assuming now, that it has the common AF/MF switch on it) why on earth you can't control focus by just physicaly turning the focus ring (again assuming that it has a manual focus ring)....Im confused...of course that should also be the case with the zoom...right? About exposure and WB...ok...I understand...those can be controled only automatically I guess...

Yes confirmed, just tested it, you are right! All are lock. All buttons and dials no function.
7 min 29 sec for hi speed mode.

Will automatically split to multiple 4Gb files in 4K mode.
29min 56 sec is the legal limit to define itself at cheap camera to evade tax.

Once again - this exposure/zoom/wb/etc. lock is ONLY during high frame rate recording:

1080p120fps
720p240fps
640x480 - 360fps

The lock does not apply to any other shooting modes like 4K (as far as I know).

But since I was more interested in the slow motion capabilities than in 4K, this made me pass on the FZ1000.

Edit:
It turns out that the 240fps and 360fps modes listed above were in the prototypes, but not in the production models.

Is electronic focus, electronic everything

IS not a mechanical focus ring or any control. The AF/MF switch will not work during 120fps mode

Except for this 120fps mode and some more advance function like shutter speed micro adjustment, touch screen and the higher quality 4K video mode is very much the same as the GH4,
Similar even comparing to the size and look.
I have tested it side by side with my friend's GH4, he was a bit upset after the test.
AF for the FZ1000 feel faster than the GH4 with those 14-45 or 45-175 or 14-140. Zoom is fast and smooth. May be those large aperture prime lens will be faster.
remote operation is very well, give the touch screen back to the FZ1000

Perhaps I am doing it wrong - but on my fz1000 all exposure controls (aperture, ISO, and shutter) are locked to auto in 120fps mode even when not recording. There is no way to fine tune the exposure at all. The menu option to change exposure control is grayed out.

..."but on my fz1000 all exposure controls (aperture, ISO, and shutter) are locked to auto in 120fps mode even when not recordin"...

You do have some control over exposure while not recording in 120fps mode. Press the thumb wheel and you will see at the bottom of the screen a + or -. When it is highlighted in yellow you can use the thumb wheel to adjust exposure.

Have only had the cam a couple of weeks and still learning but really like it so far. I need to determine whether recording in 4K 30P and down scaling to 1080 is a big enough improvement over in cam 1080 60p to warrant the extra hazzle and time in editing. Taking a little road trip this weekend and will compare. I have no use for outputting anything over 1080 but do like the ability to pull quality stills off the footage.

I just got the FZ1000 and tried the high speed video. It looks horrible. Not sure if I am doing something wrong???

Plus - why does the exposure change when zooming???
It is actually recording that way.???

Wondering what do you mean by horrible?
Answer to your query:
Aperture will decrease when you zoom in (vice versa) so exposure change
it will record that way too.

Horrible - like grainy and not really usable. I guess it's OK for cat & dog videos…..
I sent my FZ1000 back.
I really wanted 4k for some situations we get in….the clients might want to crop in, or we might need to stabilize
footage etc….I have rented the GH4 a few times but was not 100% on it…..
For now my Sony RX10 is producing the kind of footage we like.
