Panasonic Employee Discount

Is it true that Panasonic employees can get the HVX200 for 30% off?

If so, would this still come with Panasonic's current offer to get a free 8gb P2 card and the HVX book with the camera?

Would purchasing through this still be considered purchasing through a "Panasonic Authorized Dealer"?

anyone???

I am wondering because I posted my motorcycle for sale saying that I was buying an HVX200. I got a reply saying the person could afford about $1300 less than what I was asking, but could get me a hvx200 for 30% off because their friend's dad works at Panasonic (so it would balance out).

Is there anything wrong with going this route? Warranty issues, free 8gb P2 card, etc? The camera would be shipped from Japan I believe...?

You are trying to trade a motorcycle for a commitment to purchase a HVX200 from a Panasonic employee at one third off and get a rebated p2 card and you're asking for advice here?

You want our opinion?

You aren't serious are you?

David S,

Yes I'm serious. No, I wouldn't be trading the bike for a commitment to buy. I would be committing to sell my bike for a lower price if said individual could get me the camera at a discounted price. There's a difference.

But apparently there's something "obvious" that I'm missing that makes you question If I am serious... so what is it? What's the problem? If I knew, I wouldn't have posted the question. I really would like to know specifically what the problem(s) may be here so that I could avoid them. If this is a stupid question I'm sorry.

Others,

It may "sound" sketchy, but I would check things out first. If in fact I could legitamely get a 30% Panasonic Employee discount, what's the problem? And, would it be eligible for the promotional 8gb P2 card/HVX book if purchased through this?

Sorry if I am missing something. I do appreciate the feedback and help!

If you know the guy and he can get you a brand-new HVX200 in a box, and you want the camera anyway, then it is a deal worth considering.

However, even if the camera is brand-new and legit, an employee purchase very likely would not qualify for the 8GB P2 card that you get if you buy from an authorized Panasonic broadcast dealer. That card is worth $1100 to $1200.

Filmguy:

Why ask us?

That is what is obvious.

If this is what you want to do, and you trust the process, then it's your call.

No body here has any first hand experience about what you propose to do.

Panasonic also offers a 30% partners discount. But that is if you deal directly with the company.

My point is that what you suggest is for you to decide, and no body here really has first hand knowledge of it.

It's your call, not ours

there are a lot of people that somehow are connected to panasonic, they dont say I dont ask, I know a dude that is "affiliated"with panny and he is always buying and selling hvx and dvx's and I asked him once how much he paid for them and he said he got them a 30-40% off the msrp and totaly legal, I dont know how he does it but I've seen the shipping lables and they come straight from the authorized panasonic factory, no gray market or nothing

Not trying to be a jerk, but...Mr. Obvious has to ask...
Are you a Panasonic employee?
Is this guy a Panasonic employee?
Is his freind a Panasonic employee?

I wouldn't count on the Card, book and even the warranty would be iffy.
If you still think it's an option, I'd get it in writing from your sellers, freinds dad.

24fps4ever - Do you know if he is able to get the promotional offers (free p2 card, book) and if it comes warrantied? I would be very curious to know this.

David S. - I wasn't asking anyone to make a call for me, I am looking for information that will help me make a call. Such as what 24fps4ever has provided. How am I to know if nobody has knowledge or information related to what I asked for if I don't ask? That's what a forum is for.

Thanks all, I appreciate the info/advice/concerns/etc. Anyone else have any thoughts or know anything about the Panasonic discount and purchasing through it?

I thought this forum dealt with general HVX News and Comments, not a three way discount such as yours.

But as I said, it's your call.

i agree with Sonlight pictures. If he's legit then I would tell him to get the HVX then when you can verify the serial in hand by calling panasonic you will continue with the deal. if what he says is true he shouldn't have any problem with doing it because
A. If he's buying the bike he has the money to buy the HVX
B. If he is worried that you won't take the HVX he can always sell it and make a profit because of the discount that he got it for.

I say go for but be smart about it and you should be covered fine

Thanks for the great tips guys.

I actually talked with him again, apparently the employee discount that his friend's dad gets is not for any Panasonic item. It is only for overstocked items and must be purchased through Panasonic's online employee store. There are no HVX200s available at this time.

I was also able to confirm that this is the case by a member on another forum.

So no scam, but no discounted camera right now either.
