Panasonic camera that can shoot 48fps...

So the only one of those that isn't P2 is the AF100... I knew I wanted one, but I didn't know how badly. Thanks for the info.

Barry, I was not aware the that HVX200 or the HPX170 could shoot at 48fps. I know that they can shoot at 720/60p, but not at 48fps. Am I missing a secret menu?

Variable frame rate, 48fps.

Playback will be at 24fps or 30fps (depending on whether you chose 24pN or 30pN) but acquisition will be at 48fps. If you want playback at 48fps, you'd have to change the playback speed of the clip.

So if I shoot on an AF100 at 24pN, 48fps, the footage will look great at 24fps and will also look glorious when dropped to half speed for slow mo playback... Correct? No weird frame blending, so forth...?

If you shoot 24p mode @ 48fps, you'll have perfect glorious film-style frame-accurate slow motion.

If you want to also have realtime footage, you'd have to play it back in your NLE at double speed. Ideally you'd do that by dropping every other frame (no frame blending used).

Is the audio recorded at 24fps or 48fps? If I drop that footage on a 24fps timeline wouldnt it play the audio at the correct speed and automatically drop the extra frames... Thus allowing me to use slow motion by dropping the speed by half at any point, but maintaining correct playback when not slowed down....?

No audio is recorded at all when shooting off-speed. You would have to record any audio separately. And audio doesn't have an FPS, it has a sampling frequency which stays constant regardless of the camera's FPS.

No audio is recorded at all when shooting off-speed.

Why is that, anyway? If the sampling frequency doesn't have anything to do with the FPS, why does it get disabled in that mode? I can understand if you're shooting at super slow FPS, but if you're shooting over 24...

It's probably a safeguard considering that most people would be shooting at 48fps to get 50% slow motion anyway.

Even if you successfully shoot something at 48fps, it'll get converted to 30fps on almost all of the major web streaming sites (anything over 30fps will be converted to 30fps actually). The only way you could distribute a non-standard fps shoot would be to provide a download of the file itself.
