OTHER: Panasonic Broadcast US announces new member to the AG-AC AVCCAM camcorder family

Nice OIS and Focus seems to snap. Does the auto focus hunts once its been on an object for awhile?
No hunting. I tried several zoom settings pointed at several objects at various distances. Once the focus locks on, it stays locked. I watched it for 20 to 30 seconds in each scenario to see if it would "hunt" and in each scenario it stayed firmly locked on.

Hi Firehawk

On a stedicam you often have a lot of movement so I would tend to keep the OIS off in that case... where it will shine will be with handheld shots ... stick a light rail and pad under the camera and have it on your shoulder and you will have almost tripod steady shots. Where it will also work well with OIS on will be tracking shots handheld ... I have to use my stedicam at wedding videoshoots if I want smooth shots of the couple or bridal party ..I also do a slow 360 walk around the couple and the new OIS now just might be able to do this handheld.

Barry? That's great news about the focus hunting...then again, as it seems to behave much the same as the HMC series, hunting was never worth worrying about !!

Hi all,
Yes I agree with Chris and firehawk, looking at Jan's video on the auto focussing this is the perfect steadicam camera. I use a steadicam pilot rig for industrial walk-arounds and this AC90 would be perfect for me in those situations. Looks like a contender as a second camera!

And as Chris says, always leave OIS off when using steadicam with any camera. The camera has no way of knowing what is deliberate or accidental movement and you could end up with an unnatural starts and stops.

If you are using a static dead start and closing with a dead stop lock off, there is no chance to correct any errors in post. (bit off topic there, but I thought it relevant.)
Cheers!

Chris, I don't know if you are familiar with the steady tracker, is like a Glidecam without a Gimbal, which makes the balance very fast I mean a few seconds plus you have a lot of control on pans etc.
However developing some techniques like walking properly and all that , is fine but not perfect flying shots, some steps can be noticeables, and trying to perfect the movement I decided to turn on the IS on ( which theoretically is not recommended )
This with the HMC40, showing an important improvement on the movement. I mean it

I hope to find out more about autofocus. Can you select an object like some Canon cameras, and have it stayed focus on that object, or will you have an option of crosshairs to do nature shots through trees?
Also would like to see some compare shots of HMC150/AC130 to see difference in video quality and low light and zoom.

I have a silly question... Does the screen turn for "one man show" work?

I have tremors and the OIS looks like just what I need.

Yep, it is now in stock and is shipping. I'm hoping that the ergonomics are good enough that it is going to be real easy to hand hold.

My 130 is too large for my needs right now since I no longer am involved with Special Events. I HOPE the AC-90 is more of an all around camera for home, business and travel. Only time will tell.

As a follow-up after evaluating: I am holding onto my Panny 130. Having both cameras is the best of both worlds. Hard to tell the difference under proper lighting but I like the ext. controls of my 130 and the 22x lens. So for now, both are in my arsenal.

Smart move ! I tested the 160A extensively over a period of months. I reached the conclusion it is a super camera.
