Also if the sound recordist has some malfunction 9 times out of 10 a quality boom mic well leveled will save the day. Sometimes when shooting a doc a situation arises that benefits from " going small" without the time to deal with sound often its the difference of getting it vs not getting it.

I've read on Facebook that today, Panasonic have released the final production software for EVA1. It's the final firmware, so we can expect new footage?

Saw someone mention the Gratical Eye in this thread, looks like a nice lightweight EVF,
with my lack of tech know how, could I power this thru the cam via a standard EVA1 battery? really want to keep the cam as light as possible
Also as a 6 ft 4" cam op, can anyone recommend a shoulder rig/support unit, I prefer to have my cam sit about chin height to look down into the evf when necessary,
and also because I'm way too tall to keep eye level with talent if its mounted any higher!

its a great EVF someone on this forum stated that Swit will be coming out with a battery that will power both.
If was 6.4 I would look into something like this:

or an easyrig

Cheers @Icarusfilm never considered one of these, anyone have experience with Atlas kit? Seems reasonably priced and easier to set up
compared to the meccano like shoulder rigs Ive been looking at,

EDIT - checked out the Atlas reviews online, seems like a winner! especially at that price, gonna order one of these to go with the new EVA :)

I was at NAB NY today. Mitch said the EVA1 cameras on display had been updated with the production version firmware that will ship with the camera. Mitch was displaying the high iso capabilities of the camera. Images looked good.

I talked with a battery manufacturer today, and it looks like a solution will make it to market. Not yet ready to announce, but I think it will happen. We're talking a 7.2v battery that mounts in the camera to power it that also has a 12v regulated P-Tap socket for powering small items such as a viewfinder or Teradek, or maybe a recorder like an Odyssey or Shogun (but not all the above -- that's too much juice). More soon.

There are several should rigs of generic design that will work with the camera, but are you asking that the camera be in front of and below your shoulder? If so then that's more of a "gun stock" design rather than an on-the-shoulder design. There are a few of those around -- if I recall correctly there's a decent budget one from Frezzi and another from VariZoom. If you're asking about a low-profile on the shoulder disjoin, then you could go all-out Mercedes-level design and go for the ARRI setup designed for EVA1. It's really sweet and adjustable. It's also ARRI so I'm sure it's not a budget solution. After that there's the usual suspects like Wooden Camera, Vocas, Shape, Zacuto, etc.

Why news and updates are being posted elsewhere, I'm guessing facebook, instead of on the forums here too? Or is it just my impression?

Because I can quickly post to Facebook and Twitter from the trade show floor and get back to business. Logging in to the forum takes a bit more time. If I log in and then don't check on all the new posts I could miss something and then you guys would say that I'm avoiding answering because there's a conspiracy. So I check the forum when I have some time, like at 12:30 at night!

This is huge. Fingers firmly crossed.
