This camera would be a bigger hit if its in the 5-6k range. Based on old panasonic cameras, im hopeful the price is way below their competitors

And it would be an even bigger hit at the same price as the GH-5. DVXUsers never fail to amuse. No piece of gear is ever cheap enough.

Yah. I'd be really surprised if it's the same price or lower than what I paid for my DVX200. It'd be a happy surprise, of course. But, "under $8000" already sounds do-able. I'm already saving up for literally "$7999" lol

^ Yes, but that adapter will take your lens all the way from awesome to rubbish.
(FD has a shorter flange distance than EF, so the adapter has to either be macro-only or include a piece of glass that, in general, 100% completely sucks)

Agreed. Forget old FD lenses unlss you have an old FD body.

Yes those (glass elements) definitely suck (the life out of the lens that is)

You can pick 5 lenses for the EVA-1. What do you pick and why?

Here's my current leading 5, please critique:

1. Sigma 18-35
2. Zeiss Milvus 35
3. Zeiss Milvus 50
4. Canon 70-200 L
5. Milvus Macro? Milvus 15? Milvus 21? Milvus 85? Canon 24-70 Zoom?

I'm curious if Veydra will do an ef mount now. When I was in gh5 mode I was really looking at them.

Obviously the wider ones would have to be a ground up reworking though.

Well, I said the same thing before the camera specs came out - it should be positioned in the $5K-$6K space. Now that the specs have come out, I still say the same thing. There are many factors that make up a price, but one of them is the competition, or what's available the same price bracket. And here you must take into account used gear. You can get the FS7 used in the $5K-$6K range. And there are other options out there. I think asking for almost $8K street is a bit much given the competition. If this cam wiped the floor with other cameras in the same price range (including used), that would be one thing, but as it stands, it is my opinion, that $5K-$6K street price is a much better competitive pricing. I hope Panasonic has thought through carefully what the optimal pricing is long term, not just short term - if you can get more people locked into your brand, even if you make slightly less money in the very short term, it makes sense to price it lower. You also want to entice people from other brands, and to break them out, you offer a great cam at a great price, not just a great cam at a big price, if you want to go for the long term. Sure, a pro who makes money hand over fist, won't blink an eye if it's $3K one way or another, but this is meant to hit a bigger market segment than just top paid pros. And those people are more price sensitive. I vote for $5K-$6K street as the sweet spot. Sure, I'd prefer the camera free, in exchange for a warm handshake, but I'm trying to be realistic here. I'm not asking for the moon here below $3K. The $5K-$6K range is perfect.

Funny, cause everyone comes at it different. I would of course grab at a lower price, but in my personal list of priorities, I'd be willing to pay an extra $1000 for an EVA-1 Extreme with faster CPU to provide 4k 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 internal, a higher FHD slow motion rate before windowing is required, and a higher mbps internal codec. To me it's less about being spoiled by options at a certain price, and more about a super lightweight powerhouse package. There's not much on the market at the FS5 and EVA-1 size/weight packing the punch this does. To me the camera seems priced right given the total package (specs + form factor, size/weight, engineering, color science, etc.), giving the best of both worlds between FS5 and FS7 with a few drawbacks (ie I prefer Sony's electronic variable ND and FS7 internal 4K 60p, but I prefer Panasonic's color science, dual ISO, menu systems, and that it has almost all FS7 features at an FS5 weight, etc.).

All in all it's an exciting time for cameras. Who would've thought before GH5 announce we'd be having 4K 60p FHD 180p and 10-bit 422 internal in a M43 size body this year? For $2k?

Actually the 2 big market concerns for Panny, IMO, won't be what they are offering at the price point, but (1) what they need to re-enter and re-establish themselves on the market and sway Sony loyalists or people invested in the Sony/BMD platforms, and (2) how well their hardware will hold up against the next wave of NAB 2018 competition less than 8 months later. So I think the EVA-1 price is fair, but it may be forced into a lower price point due to market conditions either to break ground initially or to respond competitively.

I agree 100% Give us the features and we'll pay for it!

Perhaps you consider a Varicam LT then?

Panasonic has been known to do things to get their gear into people's hands at attractive prices. 2700's started out at $40K, before you added a VF. They then introduced a "trade-in" program that let you grab one for HALF that.

This is a nice list but bag the 24-70 and get the 17-55 2.8 IS intead or of course, the CNe 18-80 T4.4 Servo if you can afford it. 17-55 is more useful as a handheld, verite lens than the 24-70. 24mm is too long for a lot of stuff on S35.

They already did. Write the check.

But then it wouldn't be 2lbs EVA-1 Extreme, it would be a 15lbs when kitted with essentials behemoth. I almost bought the Varicam LT but didn't after demoing it. I know some of this is limited to what is possible with 2017 tech but if they did offer an EVA-1 extreme with those specs in that footprint/weight at an additional price, I would spring!
