Who's shipping first?

One little misstep and the others will suffer.

Sony's probably packing boxes with their new camera and sending to retailers next week.

The C200 is shipping August, and I am sure Canon are prepping their production lines as we speak. The production - demo models have already made the rounds across various dealers in the UK, so Canon at least has their sh*t together. I cant wait to test out the C200 soon. May even buy it. I'd take 12bit internal 4K raw over 5.7K any day. Plus DPAF is king, nothing can touch it.

The EVA1 looks nice really nice, it's compact, but they have to get the colours right, the dynamic range and also ship it quicker.

Where's the footage? Disappointing really...

The sensor and the electronics package are not finalized, so if they release sub-par footage because of this people would crap all over it.

I don't want to see anything until "the cake is baked", which will probably be late Summer or early Fall.

Panasonic are making too much of a fuss about this camera - no footage, no production model... specs are one thing, but this won't be ready by next NAB .... plus 8000 is a bit much.

This is more than we got when the GH5 was first announced at Photokina 2016 last September, where all we got was just 4 features of the GH5, but thankfully it included the only thing I cared about which was 10-bit 4:2:2 internal shooting. So 6 months later we had a shipping GH5 camera that was over all an amazing camera for $2K. I expect the same sort of thing for the EVA1, where we start to see actual footage by the end of August / early September, with the actual camera shipping shortly after that.

How is less than $8K a bit much ???

1- This camera HAS 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording. The Canon C200 does not. The Sony FS5 does not. The FS7 does, but that costs more than $8K.

2- It has dual native ISO, something which should make it better at low light than it's competitors.

I expect it won't have great AF, but I really don't care about that. I want a great image, and this really looks like it's going to deliver a great image.

Low light performance has always been a weakness for Panasonic in this class of camera. I'm very interested to find out how the dual native ISO translates into low light performance, to me this is a decisive factor for any purchase... everyone has their own criteria of dealbreakers/makers.
Well, they haven't revealed the exact dual ISO numbers yet. But the Varicam and LT have been killing it in terms of low light performance with their 800/5000 ISO dual native sensor. The fact that this EVA1 has a dual native sensor is an extremely interesting factor.

Sony has already put the FS5 on sale with a $1000 mail in rebate which will buy an atmos and still be way under 8k, along with a free metabones ef adaptor and 0% financing for 24 months, for Panasonic to compete this camera needs to be at $6k.The Canon C200 has AF, and color, at the same price Canon will win especially if canon includes the XF AVC codec as promised, unless 240fps in 2k is important to a buyer.

I'm not a Blackmagic fan at all. But apart from the ISO features, what does this camera have over the latest Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K? If I'm not wrong the Ursa also works out to a bit cheaper. Although I don't really know as I don't follow Blackmagic.

It's shipping this fall. Which might mean September. Or maybe October. We don't know yet. But it's not going to be far behind the Canon.

These presentations are all very similar if you have watched enough of them.

There isn't much "wow" factor. It's just the way it is. They are live and sometimes awkward.

Out of respect for Mitch, who tries to help all of us here, forget about the presentation.

It had nothing to do with Mitch. He did what he could. I mean, he did call his boss Taco, but everybody has their moment. It was the lack of concrete announcement. They can't state what dual ISO levels there will be. Meaning, they haven't gotten to that point of development. No mention of AF capability. Meaning, they haven't gotten to the point of development. I didn't hear anything about audio quality ( which is the easy part). All I heard was marketing keywords. 10bit, varicam color, 5.7K, Raw in the future, and a backpack.

The only good (and bad) thing I got from this is they are aiming at a specific Aussie company with specs and price. Good that they want to compete, bad that they are forced to compete.

I still have faith in Panny. Or at least I hope I do. One word of caution to them though (Barry). "IF" they get delayed on this camera, by any measurable amount, it will be suicide. I think about the brand Panasonic over others because of track record and the ability to make a solid product.

Now, from a marketing point of view... They teased us with the blankie picture for how long? We had 100 pages of "speculation". And this is the reveal? Numbers and specs? A camera in development "two years ago"?

Hope you pull through, Panny. I really do. The ball is in YOUR court, not mine.....

We need to bring back stickies...some of these cameras should have some official docs in the sub-forums.

There are some nice bits built into the camera. Two cold shoes on the top handle,at leasst 6 1/4-20 threads on the top, a foldable hood on the monitor, a nice removable side grip with record button thumb wheel and another button.

Smaller size, better reliability and quality control, it's made by a bigger company with better customer service... That's about it.

Depends on what you want to use the camera for. For narrative work I wouldn't touch FS5 with a ten foot pole.

Still marketing keywords, as they don't even know what the sensor will do!

...Panasonic has produced great color performance with their recent Varicam cameras and with the new GH5. ( I shot a medical procedure under hospital fluorescent lights just two days ago with my GH5, and was surprised at how good the color was. Even just looking at my Marshal monitor I could tell this was really good color compared to the other cameras I've shot with. ) So if Panasonic are aiming for "Varicam color", I would expect this to be really good, and possibly better than any of their competition.

Given how the GH5 was rolled out ( WAY LESS info than this camera was today ) and then 6 months later we have a shipping camera that delivers on almost everything promised ( I never expected great AF ), you guys have to be patient and let Panasonic do what they do. They did it in 6 months with the GH5, and hopefully it won't be any longer with the EVA1 camera.

Chris has a "Strong" point on the presentation. That was NOT acceptable for Panasonic! Again, I'm rooting for a winner and hope it's as good or better than what was stated. But NO excuses for how it was presented (I'm just talking about the wow effects for the presentation) as I work in Marketing, SO I CAN SPEAK ON THIS SUBJECT!!! No big deal for me on if the product is complete or not at this stage, but the overall presentation from a Multi-Billion Dollar Corporation should have been better!!!!!

More exclamation points please. !!!!!!!!!

I don't think the shipping date matters. The proof will be in the pudding. I think Canon automatically will win some buyers with their DPAF and Panasonic should win some with the better internal recording specs....though a few who want internal raw will be impressed with the Canon. Both have internal ND, both have small footprints, both promise to be good in low light, though more is known about the Canon on that end.
In the end, it will come down to if either has a particular feature someone wants and/or a very special "magic" to the image and color. I suspect the shipping dates are too close together to really matter in the ultimate success of either unit.
