Panasonic anamorphic adapter music video

I shot this video a couple of weeks ago to test out the Panasonic anamorphic adapter with the t2i (I mostly wanted it for the lens flares). It's great, however you can't get razor sharp focus with the adapter on. I don't really care about razor sharp edges so I liked it alot, but if you do, you probably won't like it. Shot it with the adapter on a Nikon 50 1.4 and the full band shots were with a Tokina 11-16.

Nice! Yeah, it is a bit soft with that filter from what I see in your video. Just as a note, there is someone on DVXUser who is building another animorphic adapter and from the test shots I have seen, it is much sharper. Not sure his ETA, but it is something he actually is patenting and will have for sale soon. I like the song too :) I shot a video earlier this year with similar framing :) This was with 2 7Ds, the same Tokina lens, the Canon wide of that size, and the Sigma 30mm lens. (I think there is a little t2i in it as well, but I didn't shoot those parts).

The editor added the flares with something in Final Cut Pro. Since then, I've been using the Video Copilot flare tool for my stuff, but getting it in lens is SO much easier for post :)

In any case, thanks for sharing!

What aperture were you using out of curiosity? You can get very sharp results with the panasonic anamorphic adapter, but not with the taking lens wide-open in most cases - certainly not at f/1.4

Some had to be wrong here. I have seen some stuff on vimeo with that adapter and its razer sharp.

yes. you can get razor sharp at f.14 you have to use diopters to focus.

for instance, on a nikon 50mm 1.8 @ 1.8, set the focus to 7 feet, add a +1 diopter and your focus will be razor sharp and unchangeable at 5 feet. the focus will soley be dependent on the strength of the diopter.

Cheapest way to get diopters is to use Cokin Diopters in a Cinetactics Matteblox. Too bad there are no cheap ways to get to +.7 or +.5
